Four distinguished alumni honoured with Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award for their remarkable accomplishments
The Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2025 was recently bestowed upon four exceptional alumni – Dr Steve Chuang Tzu-hsiung, JP; Dr Elton Sun Wu; Ir Tony Wong Chi-kwong, JP; and Mr Eddie Wong Kwok-hing, CSDSM – in honour of their outstanding career achievements and contributions to PolyU. The presentation ceremony at Hotel ICON was attended by over 230 guests who joined in the celebration.
Recipients of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2025 are:

Dr Steve Chuang Tzu-hsiung, JP
Founder and Chief Executive Officer, ProVista Group
Higher Certificate in Electronic Engineering (1985), Hong Kong Polytechnic
Diploma in Electronic Engineering (1984), Hong Kong Polytechnic
Dr Steve Chuang Tzu-hsiung, founder of ProVista Group, has led it to global leadership in solar and energy solutions and won multiple electronic industry awards. He championed new industrialisation as the Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, founded the Hong Kong New Industrialisation Development Alliance, and actively supports PolyU through funding assessments, advisory roles and STEM certification collaboration.

Dr Elton Sun Wu
Vice President, Hyatt China; Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, UrCove Hotels
Doctor of Hotel and Tourism Management (2023), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Master of Science in Hotel and Tourism Management (2004), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Dr Elton Sun Wu, Vice President of Hyatt China, leads the UrCove brand, opening nearly 70 hotels within five years. He has driven major brand and market growth when he held key leadership roles at HK CTS Hotels Company Limited and Huazhu Hotels Group. A devoted PolyU alumnus, he heads the School of Hotel and Tourism Management Mainland Alumni Network and advises PolyU’s tourism digital transformation research.

Ir Tony Wong Chi-kwong, JP
Commissioner for Digital Policy, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China
Higher Diploma in Systems Analysis (1987), Hong Kong Polytechnic
Ir Tony Wong Chi-kwong rose through Hong Kong’s government IT ranks to become Government Chief Information Officer in 2023 and the first Commissioner for Digital Policy in 2024, driving data-driven digital government, smart city development, cybersecurity drills and national tech integration, while actively mentoring PolyU students under the “INSPIRE” Mentorship Programme and supporting University events as an engaged alumnus.

Mr Eddie Wong Kwok-hing, CSDSM
FCommissioner of Correctional Services, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China Professional
Diploma in Occupational Therapy (1989), Hong Kong Polytechnic
Mr Eddie Wong Kwok-hing, Commissioner of Correctional Services since 2022, has driven “Smart Prison” technologies recognised with consecutive Silver Medals at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, and launched innovative rehabilitation initiatives like Project JET and Ethics College, while partnering with PolyU on food-waste upcycling and sustainable product development, and actively engaging with the University community.

The Award Selection Committee was chaired by Dr Lam Tai-fai, PolyU Council Chairman. Ex-officio members included Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President, and Professor Wing-tak Wong, Deputy President and Provost of PolyU. Other committee members included Mr Alex Wong Chun-bong, PolyU Council Member; Ir Arthur Lee Kam-hung, University Court Member; Mr Dennis Ho Chiu-ping, President of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Association; and Ir Yau Kwok-fai, President of the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations.
Established to honour distinguished graduates of PolyU and its predecessors – the Government Trade School, the Hong Kong Technical College, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic – the Award recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to their alma mater and have positively impacted the wider community. These outstanding recipients exemplify PolyU’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible leaders for Hong Kong, the Nation, and the world. Since its inception in 1996, the Award has been presented to 113 alumni in total.

PolyU President Professor Jin-Guang Teng welcomed guests, praising the awardees and sharing the University’s achievements in education and research, fostering pride among attendees.
