Game-changing "Zero-hallucination" AI literature review system reshapes the future of academic research
Artificial intelligence (AI) has come a long way in mastering language and reasoning, yet a persistent challenge remains – AI hallucinations. In certain instances, these systems produce responses that sound credible but lack factual grounding. Today, a new wave of innovation is addressing this limitation by developing systems capable of generating accurate, verifiable literature reviews and research analyses with unprecedented reliability.
Playing a significant role in this breakthrough is “Write For You”, a literature review system developed by Professor Liu Yan, Associate Professor and Group Leader of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (AIR) Research Group at the Department of Computing (COMP) of PolyU. It is designed to conduct in-depth analysis across extensive bodies of literature and generate reports in minutes, transforming the way scholars approach literature reviews.
Since its launch earlier in 2025, Write For You has gained remarkable traction, attracting over 40,000 active users worldwide. The academic paper on this system was also presented at the AI conference held by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence last February.
According to Professor Liu, the project was inspired by Professor Cao Jiannong, PolyU Vice President (Education), who in 2022 envisioned AI transforming the process of educational research. Guided by this vision, the AIR team set out to overcome one of AI’s long-standing obstacles – enabling machines to generate insights without fabricating information.
A key contributor, Mr Zhang Zhi, a PhD student of COMP, leveraged the latest techniques of intelligent agents to empower the system to achieve “zero‑hallucination” outputs. This framework uses reliable reasoning and the capability to integrate academic resources across languages. Meanwhile, Dr Chen Gong, a PhD graduate from the same department, created a user-friendly system that enables users across industries to obtain a comprehensive and in-depth literature review swiftly.
“Compared with traditional reading that requires considerable time and human resources, the ‘Write For You’ system can significantly enhance research efficiency while also reducing costs,” said Professor Liu. “It has therefore been well received by users around the world. In just a few months since its launch, users have spanned dozens of countries and regions.”
Professor Cao highlighted PolyU’s broader vision, “With the trend of AI‑empowered education and research, PolyU is committed to leveraging leading generative AI technologies to enhance research efficiency.”
Looking ahead, the team plans to evolve the system into an “AI Super Research Brain”, supporting every stage of the research process. By rooting AI firmly in verifiable truth, PolyU researchers are shaping a future where AI enhances not only the pace of discovery but the integrity of knowledge itself.
