On 10 January 2024, the University hosted a Celebration Dinner for PolyU Members and Friends Honoured by the HKSAR Government from 2019 to 2023 to celebrate their remarkable achievements.

During the years of his leadership, Prof. Poon successfully steered the then Hong Kong Polytechnic to become The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1994, laying a solid foundation for the development of teaching and research as well as achieving international recognition for PolyU.
