On 10 January 2024, the University hosted a Celebration Dinner for PolyU Members and Friends Honoured by the HKSAR Government from 2019 to 2023 to celebrate their remarkable achievements.
 

We were honoured to have Prof. the Hon. Poon Chung-kwong, GBM, GBS, PhD, DSc, JP, President Emeritus of PolyU, and Prof. Sophia Chan Siu-chee GBS, JP, Recipient of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2023, share their memories of PolyU.
 

As a passionate educationist, Prof. Poon Chung-kwong devoted 40 years of his life to university education, including 18 years as the Director of the Hong Kong Polytechnic and the President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. During the years of his leadership, Prof. Poon successfully steered the then Hong Kong Polytechnic to become The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1994, laying a solid foundation for the development of teaching and research as well as achieving international recognition for PolyU.
 

Best known for her decade-long stints as the Under Secretary for Food and Health and the Secretary for Food and Health, Prof. Sophia Chan Siu-chee was the first PolyU alumna and nurse in Hong Kong to take up these ministerial positions. She was a founding faculty member of the School of Nursing, contributing to PolyU’s offering of the first bachelor degree nursing programme in Hong Kong. Over the years, she has also served the School as a consultant, external examiner and in various other roles.
 

All honourees, including PolyU Council Chairman Dr Lam Tai-fai, GBS, JP and President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, JP, are devoted to serving Hong Kong and have made important contributions to the development of our society. We are proud of them and would like to express our sincere gratitude to them for their continuous support to PolyU.
