In a strategic move to bridge the realms of artificial intelligence (AI) and international relations, PolyU and the China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) have formalised a collaboration focused on talent development and future joint research efforts. The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that establishes a dynamic partnership aimed at nurturing top-tier, interdisciplinary talent. This collaboration seeks to leverage the strengths of both institutions in AI and diplomatic training to address pressing global challenges, thereby contributing to the Nation’s educational advancement and global competitiveness.

The signing ceremony, held at CFAU in Beijing, was a significant milestone witnessed by Dr Lam Tai-fai, PolyU Council Chairman, and Mr Wang Shiting, CFAU Party Committee Secretary. The MoU was officially signed by Professor Jin-Guang Teng, PolyU President, and Professor Wang Fan, CFAU President. Also present were key academic leaders including Professor Wing-tak Wong, PolyU Deputy President and Provost; Professor Cao Jiannong, Acting Vice President (Education); Professor Li Ping, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Professor Xiong Wei, CFAU Head of the Department of Diplomacy; Professor Ran Jijun, Head of the Department of English; and Ms Ma Xinyu, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office, underscoring the commitment at the highest levels to this interdisciplinary endeavour.

This collaboration will implement a “1+1” joint training model, featuring postgraduate programmes in “Generative Artificial Intelligence and the Humanities” and “Artificial Intelligence and Global Governance”. Additionally, both institutions will explore a “2+2” model for joint undergraduate education, offering students diverse and integrated pathways for growth.

Moving forward, PolyU is eager to enhance its collaboration with CFAU by strengthening staff and student exchanges, academic seminars, and joint research initiatives. This effort aims to develop high-calibre talent with a strong sense of social responsibility, national pride and a global perspective for the development of Hong Kong and the Nation, which are central to the University’s mission.
