Strengthening Wuxi-Hong Kong ties through inno-tech conference and PolyU InnoHub@Wuxi launch
PolyU is dedicated to fostering strategic partnerships that drive technological advancement and innovation for societal benefit. The PolyU-Wuxi Technology and Innovation Research Institute (WXRI) recently hosted a conference aimed at strengthening collaboration between Wuxi and Hong Kong, focusing on the integrated development of innovation and industry within the Wuxi High-Tech Industrial Development Zone. The event marked the official launch of the PolyU InnoHub@Wuxi and attracted representatives from government, industry, and academia.
During the conference, cooperation agreements were signed with local enterprises to leverage Wuxi’s favourable business climate and the Greater Bay Area’s ecosystem. The aim is to enhance talent recruitment, industrial collaboration, and investment, ultimately fostering quality projects and nurturing talent in the region.
PolyU President Professor Jin-Guang Teng led a delegation to Wuxi and met with Mr Du Xiaogang, the Communist Party Secretary of Wuxi Municipality, to explore collaborative mechanisms for integrating technology and industrial innovation. Both parties expressed a commitment to attracting essential talent, transforming cutting-edge scientific achievements, and contributing to national goals in education, science, technology, and talent development.
Professor Teng emphasised that the establishment of the PolyU InnoHub@Wuxi leverages the University’s strengths in scientific research and Hong Kong’s international resources to accelerate the transformation of research outcomes. The initiative will focus on aligning PolyU’s research capabilities with Wuxi’s industrial needs to drive technological breakthroughs, support startups from Hong Kong and Macau in Wuxi, and create a “PolyU Wuxi entrepreneurship base”. Additionally, an integrated industry–academia–research platform will be developed to accelerate the incubation and commercialisation of PolyU’s research projects.
With the inauguration of the PolyU InnoHub@Wuxi, WXRI is set to play a pivotal role in empowering industry through innovative technology and efficiently serving society. Cooperation agreements were signed between WXRI and two Wuxi companies – Longshine Technology Group Co. Ltd and Guohong Tool Systems (Wuxi) Co., Ltd – to promote the deep integration of artificial intelligence with the power and energy sector; as well as to facilitate the establishment of a doctoral workstation and industry-academia-research laboratory, respectively. Furthermore, two PolyU startups reached agreements to enhance collaboration in the innovation and technology industry, marking a key advancement in Wuxi-Hong Kong partnerships.
The event concluded with three thematic forums addressing Wuxi’s advanced manufacturing opportunities for global expansion, the pursuit of high-quality financial and industrial development in Hong Kong, and the integration of science and innovation education. Moreover, a startup project roadshow highlighted 13 innovative PolyU advancements in healthcare, biomedicine, artificial intelligence, robotics, advanced materials, and green technologies.
