The PolyU Department of Rehabilitation Sciences (RS) sports team, led by Prof. Amy Siu Ngor FU, Associate Head of the RS and Peter Hung Professor in Pain Management, has been partnering with national, provincial and local sports bureaus, institutes and hospitals, as well as global researchers. Together, they conduct research and knowledge transfer in sports rehabilitation, aiming to enhance sports performance, minimise injury incidence and facilitate injury recovery.

This partnership began in 2008 with the General Administration of Sport of China, where the team provided sports rehabilitation for national teams preparing for the Beijing Olympics, as well as planning and delivering sports physiotherapy services at the Olympic Village. In preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics, this partnership has expanded to include a research project on sleep recovery for national athletes.

At the provincial level, the team has been providing research and services for the Guangdong Sports Training Centre since 2014, identifying injury profiles and risk factors in elite athletes to develop preventive guidelines. The team's most recent research project, funded by the Guangdong Sports Bureau, focuses on identifying sport-specific recovery strategies for elite athletes.

Locally, the team receives funding support from the Hong Kong Sports Science and Research Funding Scheme to design and test an auriculotherapy device for sleep problems in local athletes preparing for the All-China Games. Furthermore, it is partnering with the Wuhan Sports Institute to reveal the mechanism and effectiveness of another self-invented device: a patellar mobilisation device for anterior knee pain.
