Tsinghua University Delegation Visits PolyU to Forge New Pathways for Elite Talent Cultivation

On 4 May 2026, Professor Qiu Yong, Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, Chairman of the Tsinghua University Council, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a delegation to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The delegation was warmly received by Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, alongside the University’s senior management and distinguished scholars. During the visit, the two universities held a meeting at the PolyU and signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) to jointly pioneer a new "Integrated Bachelor-PhD/ MPhil Programme" model. Prior to the signing ceremony, the two sides held a high-level meeting. Attendees from Tsinghua University included Professor Qiu Yong, Professor Yang Bin, Vice Chairman/ Vice Chancellor of the Tsinghua University Council; Ms Xiao Qian, Deanof Office of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs and various department representatives. Representing PolyU were President Jin-Guang Teng; Professor Zijian Zheng, Vice President (Knowledge Transfer); Mr Cheung Leong, Vice President (Administration and Development); Professor Geoffrey Shen, Associate Vice President (Global Partnerships); Professor Wang Zuankai, Associate Vice President (Research); as well as representatives of relevant faculties and departments. Witnessed by President Jin-Guang Teng and Secretary Qiu Yong, Professor Bu Siqi, Associate Head (Research) of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at PolyU, signed the MoUs for the "Integrated Bachelor- PhD/ MPhil Degree Programme" with Professor Shen Yuan, Chair of the Department of Electronic Engineering; Professor Sun Kai, Associate Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering; and Professor Li Zhengcao, Vice Dean of Weiyang College at Tsinghua University. The signing of these agreements marks a deep integration between the two universities in the engineering fields of electronics and electrical engineering, as well as interdisciplinary cultivation in basic sciences. Through this scheme, both universities will pool resources to create a seamless pathway from undergraduate to postgraduate studies, cultivating globally competitive research talent. Looking ahead, Tsinghua and PolyU will move forward in lockstep in their shared pursuit of excellence.

PolyU and Fuwai Hospital Sign MOU to Co-create an Innovative Ecosystem for Lifestyle Medicine

On 25 March 2026, a delegation from the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (Fuwai Hospital) visited The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The two institutions officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish deep cooperation in interdisciplinary education, joint talent cultivation, collaborative scientific research, and knowledge transfer. This partnership integrates PolyU’s comprehensive interdisciplinary system with Fuwai Hospital’s world-class clinical resources to drive advancements in lifestyle medicine, fostering an “Medicine-Research-Industry” integration model that contributes to the "Healthy China" initiative. Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, and Prof. Wing-tak Wong, Deputy President and Provost, led the PolyU representatives in warmly receiving the delegation. Prior to the signing ceremony, both parties held a high-level meeting to explore future strategic collaborations. The visit featured a highly productive itinerary. On the morning of 25 March, organized by the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences (FHSS), a thematic symposium on Lifestyle Medicine was held. Experts and scholars from various units participated, including the PolyU Academy for Artificial Intelligence (PAAI), Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Research Institute for Intelligent Wearable Systems (IWEAR), Department of Health Technology and Informatics, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, School of Nursing, Department of Applied Social Sciences and School of Optometry. On the morning of 26 March, the delegation toured various PolyU laboratories and facilities, including the Cave Automatic Virtual Environment, the Biomarker Discovery Laboratory (under University Research Facility in Life Science), the Food Science and Nutrition Research Laboratory and Demo Kitchen, the Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology Laboratory, the ReST Hub, and the Optometry Clinic. These visits provided the delegation with a firsthand look at PolyU’s robust R&D capabilities, technical expertise, and advanced experimental facilities across diverse fields.

PolyU Welcomes Delegation from Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government to Deepen Guangdong-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation

PolyU welcomed a delegation from the Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government on 20 March 2026. Both parties engaged  in in-depth discussions on further advancing cooperation in education, science and technology, and talent development, and jointly explored high-quality development opportunities within the framework of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction. The delegation,  led by Mayor Yin Nianhong of the Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government, comprised representatives from relevant government departments and enterprises. Professor Wing-tak WONG, Deputy President and Provost, Professor Wang Zuankai, Associate Vice President (Research) and Dean of Graduate School, and Professor Tse Man-kin, Executive Director of the PolyU-Zhongshan Technology and Innovation Research Institute (PolyU-ZSRI), together with other representatives, warmly received the delegation and accompanied them on a tour of campus facilities. PolyU is committed to becoming an innovative world-class university and has achieved remarkable progress in university rankings, disciplinary development, talent cultivation, research outcomes, and knowledge transfer. Through strategic partnerships with mainland cities, the University actively converts its interdisciplinary research strengths into practical solutions that serve regional development. As a key pillar of PolyU’s network of technology innovation research institutes in the mainland, PolyU-ZSRI has, since its establishment, focused on the biopharmaceutical and health industries, striving to build a full-chain innovation ecosystem encompassing “technology R&D—commercialisation—industrialisation.” By nurturing high-end talent and advancing high-potential transformation projects, PolyU-ZSRI continues to strengthen deep integration among industry, academia, and research, injecting new momentum into the industrial upgrading of Zhongshan and the Greater Bay Area. The visit underscores the Zhongshan Municipal Government’s strong commitment to deepening collaboration with PolyU and further consolidates the friendly partnership between PolyU and Zhongshan. Both sides emphasised their intention to continue strengthening cooperation in scientific and technological innovation, talent cultivation, and industrial synergy, fully leveraging PolyU’s research capabilities and Zhongshan’s solid industrial foundation to jointly establish a leading hub for biopharmaceutical and health technology in the Greater Bay Area. Guided by the philosophy of “delivering innovations with direct societal benefits”, PolyU’s research endeavours will continue to actively integrate into the overall development of the Greater Bay Area, contributing wisdom and strength to the region’s advancement.

PolyU and Tianjin University Forge Strategic Partnership to Drive Higher Education Collaboration

On 23 January 2026, Professor Chai Liyuan, President of Tianjin University, led a delegation to visit PolyU. The delegation was warmly received by Professor Teng Jinguang, President of PolyU; Professor Wong Wing-tak, Deputy President and Provost; Ms Katherine Hung Siu-lin, Honorary Member of the University Court and Member of the PolyU Foundation Governance Committee; Professor Ben Young, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs); Professor Wang Zuankai, Associate Vice President (Research); Dr Laura Lo, Associate Vice President (Institutional Advancement); as well as deans and heads of relevant faculties and departments. During the visit, the delegation visited PolyU’s Research Centre for Assistive Technology, Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Things, and Electric Vehicle Research Centre. Afterwards, a high-level meeting and exchange was held where the presidents of both universities introduced the latest developments of their respective institutions and engaged in in-depth discussions on future collaborative education initiatives. Representatives exchanged views on key topics such as joint curriculum development, joint appointment, and joint student training. During the discussion, both parties explored new avenues for cooperation and mapped out a clear blueprint for future collaboration. Following the meeting, the presidents of both universities jointly signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on the Joint Establishment of Mainland and Hong Kong/ Macao/ Taiwan Cooperative Educational Institution". This marks a new stage in the collaboration between the two universities in higher education and high-level talent cultivation, ushering in a new phase of strategic cooperation. Moving forward, both universities will further integrate their strengths in teaching and research resources, jointly build a high-level talent cultivation system, and continue to promote educational innovation and regional collaborative development.

PolyU and Beijing Institute of Technology Forge Comprehensive Collaboration

On 22 January 2026, Professor Jiang Lan, President of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), led a delegation to visit The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Professor Teng Jinguang, President of PolyU, Professor Wang Zuankai, Associate Vice President (Research), as well as deans of relevant faculties and research institutes warmly received the delegation. Both sides held a meeting to exchange views and engaged in in-depth discussions on various topics, including innovative collaboration, technology transfer, and talent cultivation. During the meeting, the presidents of both universities renewed the institutional-level Memorandum of Understanding and jointly witnessed the signing of a departmental Memorandum of Understanding between the School of Medical Technology of Beijing Institute of Technology and the Department of Biomedical Engineering of PolyU. The two sides also exchanged three letters of intent for cooperation, namely: the Establishment of the Beijing-Hong Kong Joint Laboratory for Smart Green Economy, the ESG and Economic Supervision Large Model Joint Laboratory, and the Joint Laboratory on Smart Electronics. This marks a new chapter in the strong partnership between the two universities, paving the way for higher-quality development together in the future.

PolyU and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Expand Educational Exchange and Cooperation

On 5 January 2026, a delegation from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) visited PolyU. The two institutions held a high-level meeting and exchange activities, and officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation, marking a new milestone in their partnership. The SUFE delegation was led by Mr Xu Tao, Chairman of the University Council and Board of Trustees. Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, along with relevant faculty leaders, warmly received the delegation. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on future collaboration. During the meeting, Professor Nancy Su, Head of the School of Accounting and Finance at PolyU, and Professor Jin Qing-Lu, Dean of the School of Accountancy at SUFE, formally signed the MoU, witnessed by President Teng and Chairman Xu. This agreement further expands educational exchange and cooperation between the two universities. PolyU will continue to actively broaden its collaborative network with top mainland universities, dedicated to cultivating outstanding talents with a global perspective, promoting academic research and social service, and making greater contributions to national and regional development.

Renmin University of China – PolyU Youth Student Exchange Forum

On 22 September 2025, the Renmin University of China – The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Youth Student Exchange Forum was held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Attendees included Wang Yi, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of Renmin University of China; Shen Qiping, Associate Vice President of PolyU; as well as representatives from the Youth League Committee and the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of Renmin University of China, and the Student Affairs Office, the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Mainland Development Office of PolyU. During the forum, volunteers for commemorative event services, members of the mass choir, and student representatives from the "Shanbei Public School" drama troupe of Renmin University of China exchanged ideas and shared their thoughts with representatives from PolyU’s Drama Club, Flag-raising Team, Choir, and Chinese Mainland Students Association.

Renmin University of China's Original Play "Shanbei Public School" was performed at PolyU

On 21 September 2025, the Renmin University of China Student Drama Troupe made its first visit to Hong Kong, presenting the large-scale original historical play "Shanbei Public School" at the Jockey Club Auditorium of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Distinguished guests included Zhou Qiang, Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R; Wang Yi, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of Renmin University of China; Shen Qiping, Associate Vice President of PolyU; representatives from the Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Limited, Shun Shin Kindness Foundation, and other organizations. Faculties and students from PolyU, The Education University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Lingnan University, along with Renmin University alumni in Hong Kong and people from various sectors also attended the event. The premiere in Hong Kong brought together nearly 1,500 distinguished guests.

PolyU and Huizhou Daya Bay sign a cooperation agreement to establish joint technology and innovation research institute

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Huizhou Municipal Government, together with the Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone (Daya Bay Development Zone), have entered into a cooperation agreement for the joint establishment of the PolyU-Daya Bay Technology and Innovation Research Institute with a signing ceremony held on campus on 13 May. Professor Jin-Guang TENG, President of PolyU, introduced the University’s latest developments and its strategic goals for future expansion in mainland China to the visiting Huizhou delegation. He added that PolyU is committed to promoting technology and innovation, and nurturing research talents. Its unique strengths in fundamental and applied research, innovation and entrepreneurship have enabled it to make a significant contribution to the high-quality development of the country. Leveraging PolyU and Huizhou’s advantages and coordinated development, the two parties will jointly establish the Research Institute to deepen their cooperation and further the translation of research outcomes, providing core technology for local industry. The Research Institute will serve as a driving force for the development of the technology industry in Huizhou, thus achieving mutual benefits for all parties. Mr LIU Ji, Secretary of the Huizhou Municipal Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Huizhou Municipal People’s Congress, stated that PolyU possesses first-class innovative talents and strong research capabilities, while Huizhou has a solid modern industrial foundation and broad scenarios for innovation application. The joint establishment of the Research Institute will definitely promote complementary advantages. With a focus on Huizhou’s industrial development, the Research Institute will fully capitalise on PolyU’s talent and research strengths to encourage further incubation and commercialisation of research outcomes in Huizhou, so as to accelerate its contribution to the further growth of Guangdong’s development. The Research Institute will also integrate high-end science and technology innovation resources from the region and abroad to cultivate high-calibre engineers, and innovative and entrepreneurial talents with mastery of key future technologies, to develop the Research Institute into a world-class technology and innovation platform. Other guests included representatives from PolyU and the Huizhou Municipal Government and enterprises. Technological innovation has become a key driver of social development. At the event, Prof. ZHENG Zijian, Chair Professor of Soft Materials and Devices of PolyU, introduced the Research Institute’s development plan. The Research Institute will focus on the fields of petrochemicals, new energy materials, artificial intelligence, and smart manufacturing. Through cooperation with Huizhou and the Daya Bay Development Zone, it will fully leverage the advantages of all parties and implement an innovation-driven development strategy to actively promote industry-university-research collaboration, making contributions to the technological innovation of Hong Kong, Huizhou and the Nation, and creating a new model of government-university collaboration.
