PolyU and Dongguan University of Technology sign MoU to promote design education and industry innovation collaboration in the Greater Bay Area

On 22 June 2026, a delegation led by Professor Zheng Yu, Vice President of Dongguan University of Technology (DGUT), visited The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The delegation was warmly received by Professor Daniel Shek, Associate Vice President (Undergraduate Programme); Professor Kun-Pyo Lee, Dean of the School of Design; Professor Henry Duh, Associate Dean (Global & Industry Engagement) of the School of Design; and representatives of the Mainland Development Office.

During the meeting, the two universities introduced their latest developments and explored future directions for collaboration. Professor Daniel Shek shared PolyU’s latest achievements in talent nurturing, research and innovation, knowledge transfer and interdisciplinary development. He emphasised PolyU’s longstanding commitment to closely aligning academic research with societal and industry needs, while actively driving the translation and application of innovative research outcomes. Professor Zheng Yu introduced DGUT’s recent progress in developing into an application-oriented research university, advancing internationalisation and optimizing its disciplinary planning. He also highlighted how the University’s International School of Design is positioned to support Dongguan’s manufacturing upgrade, digital transformation, and regional industrial needs.

The MoU signing ceremony was an important part of the visit. Witnessed by Professor Daniel Shek and Professor Zheng Yu, Professor Kun-Pyo Lee, and Professor Xu Yanzhuan, head of the International School of Design of DGUT, signed an MoU on behalf of their respective universities. The signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone in the partnership between the two institutions.

Looking ahead, PolyU and DGUT will leverage this new milestone to advance practical cooperation and explore further synergistic opportunities.
