On 20 May 2026, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) welcomed a delegation from the Taian Municipal People’s Government of Shandong Province. The delegation was led by Mr Li Guoqiang, Deputy Party Secretary of the Taian Municipal Committee, Mayor of Taian and Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Taian Municipal Government. Professor Wing-tak Wong, Deputy President and Provost of PolyU, along with Professor Geoffrey Shen, Associate Vice President (Global Partnerships), warmly received the delegation.
As an innovative world-class university, PolyU has made significant progress in university rankings, discipline development, talent cultivation, and research achievements in recent years. During the meeting, Mayor Li Guoqiang spoke highly of PolyU’s profound academic heritage and its robust contemporary development. Capitalising on Taian's rich cultural and tourism resources and PolyU's academic strengths, representatives from both sides—including those from PolyU's School of Hotel and Tourism Management and the Faculty of Humanities—engaged in in-depth discussions on industry-academia-research collaboration in the field of cultural tourism.
The visit of the Taian delegation marks a new milestone in the close collaboration between PolyU and local governments in Shandong Province. Looking ahead, both parties will fully leverage PolyU’s strengths in research and talent, along with Taian’s solid industrial, cultural and tourism foundations, joining hands to contribute to the Nation’s development.
