Biography
Dr. Farhan SALEEM is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focuses on climate extremes, compound climate events, climate risk assessment, and the application of artificial intelligence and geospatial analytics to environmental challenges. He specializes in the analysis of heatwaves, droughts, compound hot-dry, hot-humid, and wet-windy events using Earth observations, reanalysis datasets, and regional climate model simulations.
Dr. SALEEM has extensive international research experience, having served as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS), Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, and as a Visiting Scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), USA. He obtained his PhD through the prestigious CAS-TWAS Presidential Fellowship Programme and has contributed to numerous studies on climate variability, climate change impacts, and future climate risks across Asia and Africa.
His current research integrates climate modeling, remote sensing, geospatial data science, and explainable artificial intelligence to improve the understanding, prediction, and attribution of compound climate extremes. His work aims to support climate adaptation, resilience planning, and sustainable development through science-based climate services and risk-informed decision making.
