The AI Tutoring System (AITU) is a 24/7 virtual tutor for enrolled students. AITU helps students strengthen foundational and prerequisite knowledge at their own pace outside of class. By supporting independent learning, AITU allows instructors to use face-to-face class time more effectively for discussion, application, and problem-solving.
AITU integrates with the Learning Management System (LMS) to retrieve course enrolment information and allow enrolled students to access learning resources and instructor-assigned quizzes for their courses.
AITU has already been piloted in a number of courses across different disciplines. Feedback from both teachers and enrolled students has been positive. It highlights how AI-supported tutoring can help students review foundational knowledge, understand difficult concepts, and feel more prepared for class activities.
Course Materials and Mind Maps
Instructors can upload course content and quizzes directly into AITU. Based on these materials, AITU can generate a visual knowledge mind map that helps students navigate key concepts and understand how different course topics are connected. Students can also select specific nodes on the map and ask questions about those particular concepts or topics.
Interactive Learning and Quizzes
Students enrolled in the course can interact with AITU to ask questions about the learning materials and test their understanding by taking quizzes.
Using only the content provided by the instructor, AITU can answer student questions, explain difficult concepts in simpler terms, and guide students through quizzes step-by-step.
Teacher Tracking Dashboard
AITU also includes a dashboard that helps instructors monitor student learning. Through the dashboard, instructors can quickly track class progress and identify common knowledge gaps for the class. This helps instructors more easily spot course areas that may need extra support at an early stage.
By helping students develop essential conceptual foundations before face-to-face classes, AITU enables instructors to make more effective use of class time, deepen students’ understanding of the knowledge, and better guide them in applying their knowledge to practical problems.
