Microsoft service updates and retirements starting May 2026

Microsoft will update and retire several services starting in May 2026 to better align with its product positioning.

 

Retirement of the Sway Desktop App

Microsoft will retire the Sway Desktop App completely after 1 June 2026. All staff and students are reminded to switch to the Sway web version at sway.cloud.microsoft to continue using Sway features.

Retirement of Outlook Lite App on Android

Microsoft will retire the Outlook Lite App completely on 25 May 2026. All Android users are recommended to switch to the Microsoft Outlook app to continue using full Outlook mailbox services.

Update on People Card Feature in Classic Outlook

The expanded People Card view in Classic Outlook will be retired in June 2026. After this change, only the standard contact card view will be available in Classic Outlook for viewing contact information. Organization chart elements, such as "Work with" and local time information, will no longer be displayed in the standard contact card view. The ability to update profile pictures directly from the expanded People Card view will also be removed. To access these features, users can switch to Outlook on the web or New Outlook to access the organization chart and local time information.

Update on Recap Feature in Microsoft Loop

Microsoft will retire the recap feature powered by Copilot (Recap your changes with AI) in Microsoft Loop after May 2026. Users can still create recaps manually by entering text directly in Microsoft Loop.
