Wesker Au receives champion at Hong Kong Fur Design Competition

BA year 4 student Wesker Au received the champion of the Hong Kong Fur Design Competition 2019, which was held at The Peninsula on 10 January. Themed 'Amazing Nature', the competition attracted over 240 submission from 120 students with the participation of five local design instututes. 10 finalists were shortlisted to showcase their works to compete four awards.

"Chemistry Lab." By Wesker Au. Echoing the theme “Amazing Nature” and inspired by chemical reaction under the microscope, Wesker applied purple, blue, green, grey and pink on his design.

Wesker was rewarded with cash prize and a short fur design course in Copenhagen, Denmark, in order to broaden their horizons and sharpen their skills. The winning design were also displayed at the Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair from 15 February to 18 February.

About the competition

To identify and nurture local design talents, the Hong Kong Fur Federation presents the annual Hong Kong Fur Design Competition that aims to encourage local young designers to flex their creative muscles and provide an exchange platform for the industry players and fur enthusiasts to further explore new and exciting possibilities of fur design. Winners were recognized for the originality and creativity, commercial value and marketability, workmanship, use of fur materials, and overall design concept of their collections.

The judging panel comprised Mrs Johanna Manni, Deputy Consul-General of the Consulate General of Finland, HKSAR, Mr Wilson Chiu, Chairman of Hong Kong Fur Federation, Mr Stephen Liang, Assistant Executive Director of Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Ms Hidy Ng, renowned fashion designer, Mr Mountain Yam, ITC fashion alumnus and other industrial representatives.
