Safe handling of chemicals is crucial to the protection of our staff and students in the course of their research work and classes. Use of hazardous chemicals can pose a wide range of health and safety hazards to people exposed to them if they are not properly managed.
HSO is responsible for ensuring:
- Provision of a safe working and learning environment
- Use of safe equipment and methods
- Utilization of suitable personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Maintenance of an up-to-date chemical inventory
- Proper handling of chemical waste
- Provision of essential chemical hazard information
- Delivery of proper training to staff and students
