Principal Investigator

A Principal Investigator (PI) is an academic staff member responsible for the preparation, conduct, and administration of a research project in compliance with applicable regulations and institutional safety requirements. He or she is responsible for health and safety issues that may arise from the daily operations or research activities of his or her research team.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

    • Ensure all the activities comply with relevant local regulations and PolyU Safety Guidelines.
    • Apply for relevant licenses for purchase, use and disposal of controlled substances or chemicals.
    • Nominate up to two purchasing delegates to handle chemical-related purchases.
    • Ensure all research team members are trained and competent to perform assigned research activities in a safe and compliant manner.
