Personal Protective Equipment Training for Laboratory User

8 November2012 (Thur)

3.Applications and limitations

4.Storage and maintenance of PPE

5.Demonstration on use (e.g. donning of gloves & respirators)


Course objectives:
The course aims to provide practical training on the use, storage and maintenance of PPE commonly used in a laboratory.


Target group(s):
All laboratory users.


PPE is often taken as the line of protection.Hence, it is crucial for PPE users to learn the correct donning procedures, applications and limitations of their PPE in order to use them properly.Besides, PPE must be properly stored and maintained to ensure its effectiveness of protection.

Assessing Risk of your Workplace

Course objectives:
To ensure the health and safety of our colleagues and students, it is necessary to identify and control risks of our workplace properly.The course will guide you through the steps for assessing risks of your workplaces by using the HSE Form 14.


Target group(s):
Personnel who are responsible for assessing risks of the workplaces should take this training.Any other personnel who are interested in workplace risk assessment are also welcome to attend this training.


The Health & Safety Committee has launched a risk assessment program which requires all dept to assess risks of their workplaces using HSE Form 14, and submit a risk register (HSE form 14A) to HSEO.This training is designed to help the depts to perform this assessment.

Course objectives:
This course aims at introducing biological safety management for laboratory supervisors and equipping users of biological agents with better knowledge on biological safety practices so that they can manage biohazardous agents in good order and work safely in the laboratory respectively.

Target group(s):
All biological laboratory supervisors and registered users of biological agents who work with microorganisms or other biohazardous substances frequently.

To equip attendees with basic radiation safety knowledge to meet the pre-requisite for application of registration as a user of irradiating apparatus in PolyU.


Target group(s):
Potential users of closed-beam X-ray equipment


Personnel who have already completed the Radiation Safety (Irradiating Apparatus) training module under HSEO’s Online Safety Training and Registration System (STRS) are considered to have met the training requirements.They are welcome to take this course as reinforcement.
