I will continue to strive for breakthroughs and make further contributions to the advancement of the discipline, especially in fundamental research and clinical translation in biomaterials.

Professor Zhao Xin

Limin Endowed Professorship and Endowed Young Scholar positions were established with donations from PolyU Technology and Consultancy Company Limited. The Chinese characters “Limin” (利民), literally “to benefit the people”, are taken from PolyU’s motto “To learn and to apply, for the benefit of mankind 開物成務 勵學利民”. The naming thus reflects the University’s objective to benefit society through knowledge transfer.

It marks PTeC as the first university consultancy arm in Hong Kong to receive such accreditation and further reinforces its position as a top-notch consultancy service provider.

Professor Zhao Xin

 

Professor Zhao Xin, Professor at PolyU’s Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology, earned her PhD degree at the University College London in the U.K. and received postdoctoral training at Harvard University in the U.S. before joining PolyU in 2016. Her research interest focuses on translational regenerative medicine to address clinical issues by integrating multi-disciplinary approaches such as material science, cell biology, engineering and medicine, for modulating cell microenvironments, controlling cell behaviours and generating tissue-engineered organs.

With an h-index of 43 in Google Scholar, Professor Zhao has so far published over 100 SCI articles, six of which are in the top 1% of most cited papers in their respective fields. She regularly contributes to prestigious journals including Nature Materials, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the U.S.A., Chemical Reviews, Materials Today, and Advanced Functional Materials. She also serves as a founding editor of Engineered Regeneration, an associate editor of Bio-Design and Manufacturing, and a guest editor for 11 other SCI journals. With her far-reaching vision, she has secured over HK$21 million of funding from sources like National Natural Science Foundation of China, Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, Innovation and Technology Commission of Hong Kong, Food and Health Bureau of Hong Kong and private companies.

Professor Zhao received the Mid-Career Award from the Chinese Association for Biomaterials in 2022, she was also awarded the 2021 National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars for her remarkable contributions in developing photocrosslinkable polymers as biomedical solutions. With the project “Biomimicking Photocrosslinkable Nanocomposite Bone Graft”, Professor Zhao also won a Silver Medal at the Special Edition 2021 Inventions Geneva.
