Professor LI Ping

In line with the role and mission of our University, our Faculty is a dynamic place for studying humanities and for understanding what it means to be human: the diversity and complexity of cultures, languages, histories, and philosophy. It is where students acquire knowledge and thrive, where teachers transmit knowledge and inspire, and where scholars discover knowledge and innovate. It is also where you find people care about people and serve the society. Our programmes aim to equip students not only with knowledge but also curiosity, creativity, and practical abilities essential in a wide range of professions.

Our efforts are fast gaining international recognition. PolyU’s Arts and Humanities is ranked 138th in the world, and 17th in Asia.1 In the subject of Linguistics, the discipline in which a large number of FH staff members are engaged, we are ranked 73rd in the world.2 Capitalising on the strengths in areas such as speech therapy, health communication, and language neuroscience, FH is emerging as a leader in tertiary education in Asia Pacific and the world, in the fields of applied language sciences, Chinese-English bilingual studies, and cultural and historical studies of China. The Faculty also serves all PolyU students taking language and general education subjects, enhancing their communicative competence in both English and Chinese and critical thinking skills. The Confucius Institute of Hong Kong under the Faculty also offers a wide range of scholarly and cultural as well as teaching activities.

In an era of uncertainty, our faculty, staff and students will rise to the challenge to create an FH environment that is friendly, culturally inclusive, open to diverse perspectives, free of discrimination and harassment, and consequently, an ecosystem that is conducive to our core missions of nurturing talents, discovering knowledge, and impacting the society.
