The Faculty of Humanities (FH) is recognised as a leading tertiary education provider in Asia in the fields of English linguistics, language science, language technology, Chinese-English bilingual studies and translation, intercultural communication, professional communication, and cultural and historical studies of China. We also excel in areas such as AI in the humanities, computational linguistics, corpus linguistics, healthcare communication, language neuroscience, sociolinguistic studies, and speech therapy. FH comprises three ambitious academic departments and one pioneering division: the Department of Chinese History and Culture, the Department of English and Communication, the Department of Language Science and Technology, and the Division of AI and the Humanities.

Our Arts and Humanities programmes are ranked 36th in the world in the US News & World Report’s 2025-26 Best Global Universities for Arts and Humanities. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, our Linguistics discipline is ranked 51st globally. In the THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026, our Faculty is ranked 77th in Arts and Humanities.
