Students will apply to enter one of the Major programmes at the end of their Year One study. Acceptance into the individual Major programme is subject to students’ GPAs, interview performance and other criteria set out by the Programme-hosting Department, if any.

Secondary Major

An expanded area of studies in addition to an existing major, forming an additional award option of "A Major plus a Secondary Major"

The option of Secondary Major in “AI and Data Analytics (AIDA)” for students enrolled in the above stated Department-based Schemes is available. Admission to the Secondary Major is on competitive basis and subject to different credit requirements for graduation.

Minor

A focused area of study with a coherent theme

Students enrolled in the above stated Department-based Schemes can apply for any Minor programmes offered by PolyU by submitting their applications to and obtain approval from the Minor-offering Department.

^(a) 9 credits of General University Requirements (GUR) subjects can be fulfilled by Major subjects. However, to fulfill the graduation requirements for the study option of “Major”, 12 credits of free elective subjects should be taken.

^(b) Subject to approval by the Minor-offering Department, students may count up to 6 credits of their Major/GUR subjects towards their chosen Minor.

^(c) Students may count up to 12 credits of their Major/GUR subjects towards the Secondary Major.
