PolyU Business School continues to achieve significant international recognition, demonstrating our leadership in business and economics education and research. In the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities for Economics and Business, PolyU Business School is ranked 25th globally and 1st in Hong Kong. This prestigious ranking assesses institutions based on research performance indicators, such as academic reputation and highly cited publications, across a broad range of subjects, including finance, management and organisational science—areas in which PolyU has demonstrated strong and impactful performance.

Further cementing our reputation, PolyU also ranks 37th globally in Business and Economics in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2025. This places PolyU as the second-highest ranked school for Business and Economics in Hong Kong, surpassing HKU, CUHK and CityU, and ranking just behind HKUST. The THE ranking evaluated 990 institutions across 85 countries and territories covering three core disciplines: Business Management, Accounting and Finance, and Economics and Econometrics.

Our research excellence has also been recognised the UTD Top 100 Worldwide Business School Rankings Based on Research Contributions (All Journals) published by University of Texas Dallas (UTD). For the period from 2020 to 2024, PBS has advanced to 35th worldwide and an impressive 5th in Asia, outranking institutions such as Singapore Management University, Fudan, and Tsinghua. Notably, we now rank above several prominent universities in the US and the UK, as well as all Australian universities. In the specific field of Production and Operations Management, FB is now ranked 4th globally, surpassed only by three universities in the US. Remarkably, we hold the top position worldwide outside the US for this five-year review period.

These impressive rankings reflect our dedication to cultivating academic, research, and industrial progress, and our commitment to sharing knowledge and technology with the broader community through our educational programmes, our partnerships, and our strong ties with industry and the professional sector.

According to statistics from the Weixin official account ‘管理卫来’ , The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) ranked first by number of papers published in CSSCI management journals in 2024, with an impressive total of 248 papers published throughout the year. This achievement highlights the faculty's ongoing contributions to management research.

Among the top 100 universities by publication volume, PolyU was one of only two universities in Mainland China to have published more than 200 papers in 2024.

Prof. Mike Lai, who serves as the Associate Dean of the Faculty, Chair Professor of Shipping and Logistics, and Interim Head of the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies, has conducted extensive research into Hong Kong's shipping ecosystem. His work aims to develop policy recommendations and foster collaboration to strengthen the shipping sector within the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The project, titled ‘Policy Recommendations on Uplifting Hong Kong’s Status as an International Shipping Centre through Development Opportunities in the Greater Bay Area’, takes a comprehensive approach to analysing the local shipping industry. It examines key elements, including the industry's structure, emerging trends, interactions between stakeholders, and its ability to adapt to external changes. The primary goal is to identify potential opportunities, particularly those emerging from the ongoing development of the GBA, to further establish Hong Kong as a leading international shipping hub.

This important project has successfully secured over HK$2 million in funding from the Strategic Public Policy Research Funding Scheme (SPPRFS) 2024-25, which is administered by the Chief Executive’s Policy Unit of the HKSAR Government. This financial support underscores the importance of this research in shaping the future of Hong Kong's shipping industry.
