Welcome to the June 2023 edition of the FB Magazine!

As we reflect on the past months, it is clear that much has changed since the last issue. Hong Kong’s borders have fully reopened, visitors are returning, and new opportunities for cross-border trade and investment are providing a much-needed boost to the local and regional economy. The world has largely moved on from COVID-19 to talk instead about AI as it enters the daily lives of many of us at a breathtaking pace.

In this edition, we focus on Web 3.0, the next generation of the Internet that promises to create a more decentralised, secure, and transparent web environment that could potentially transform many industries. At the Faculty of Business, we recognise the importance of Web 3.0 and are exploring how we can leverage it to benefit our students and the wider community.

Our feature article reports on our exploratory partnerships with leading Web 3.0 providers such as Chainlink, BNB Chain, and Moonbeam to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in the blockchain industry. PolyU is well-positioned to explore such collaborations, which could offer our students access to cutting-edge technology and real-world experience in the rapidly evolving world of Web 3.0.

I am proud to announce that the Faculty has risen in some key rankings since the last edition of our magazine. What’s more, some faculty members have been recognised as top scientists in their disciplines. You can find details of these and other accomplishments in the Achievements section.

In the Alumni section, we feature an interview with DBA alumnus Dr Cai Jin, CEO of Sing Tao News Corporation, who provides valuable insights into the rapid digital transformation taking place in the media industry, the mutual benefits of university-industry collaborations, and his ideas for talent development in the field of business operations.

The Research Perspectives section summarises some of the important studies that our faculty members have been working on recently. These studies cover a wide range of topics ranging from improving the detection of fake online content to identifying a more efficient pricing strategy for electric power producers. These and other studies shed light on some of the challenges and opportunities that businesses face today and present new ideas and approaches to address them.

Finally, the Around the Faculty section contains a roundup of newsworthy stories about Faculty of Business staff, students, and alumni.

I hope you will find this edition of the FB Magazine interesting and informative. As we head into the summer months, I wish everyone a successful and productive season. I look forward to introducing our next edition at the end of the year.
