Annual Gathering of “INSPIRE” Mentorship Programme

PolyU launched its first institution-wide mentorship programme “INSPIRE” in 2020, with a view to further enhancing students’ academic, personal, and professional advancement in a holistic way through a support network of role models and prominent leaders from the PolyU community. A big thank you to all the 109 highly-esteemed mentors, including outstanding alumni, University Fellows, Poly-preneurs, members of the University Council and Court, as well as friends and supporters of PolyU, for their support in this meaningful initiative. They have facilitated the holistic education experience of the 349 student mentees in the academic year 2020/21.   On 27 October 2021, participating mentors, mentees, senior management and staff member of PolyU were brought together in the “INSPIRE Annual Gathering 2021” to celebrate the programme’s success. Mentees expressed their sincere gratitude to their mentors for their guidance and support on this special occasion.

PolyU honours ten distinguished graduates at the Award Presentation Ceremony of Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2021

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) presented the "Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2021" to ten distinguished graduates at the award presentation ceremony on 4 October 2021 at Hotel ICON. More than 100 guests including awardees and their families, proposers, award recipients of past years, senior management and staff of PolyU attended the event. Dr Katherine Ngan Ng Yu-ying, MH, JP, Guest of Honour and Chairman of the Panel of Judges, Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU and Dr David Ng Kin-ching, President of the Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations (FHKPUAA) presented the awards to the ten distinguished alumni. Addressing the event, Prof. Jin-Guang Teng welcomed all guests to attend this meaningful event. He commended that the awardees had earned their personal achievements through hard work and perseverance, and contributed significantly to the development of the city and the Nation.  Dr Katherine Ngan praised that the awardees were inspirational leaders and role models for our young generations.  The awardees expressed heartfelt thanks to their proposers, judges and alma mater, as well as their family and friends for their support. Two awardees, Ms Janet Chen and Mr Michael Ross, were not able to attend the ceremony. They also delivered their acceptance remarks through pre-recorded videos.  Jointly organised by PolyU and FHKPUAA, the "Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award" aims at honouring outstanding graduates of PolyU and its forerunners for their distinguished professional accomplishments and significant contributions to the community and their alma mater. Launched in late 1996 and now came to the 13th time, more than 90 distinguished alumni in various professions have been honoured in the award selection. Please click here to view the event photos.

PolyU Mainland Graduates 10-Year Graduation Reunion

On 25 September 2021, a homecoming event was successfully organised for the Mainland Graduates who graduated in 2010 and 2011 and are currently residing in Hong Kong. A total of 60 alumni visited their alma mater. The event was co-organised by Mainland Development Office and Mainland and International Alumni Sub-committee of  Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations. Our alumni visited the Research Centre for Deep Space Explorations, the Aviation Services Research Centre, Jockey Club Innovation Tower and Alumni Atrium at the campus tour. After the campus tour, President Professor Jin-Guang Teng, together with Executive Vice President Dr Miranda Lou, Director of Mainland Development Professor Lu Haitian, President of Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations Dr David Ng and Convenor of Mainland and International Alumni Sub-Committee of Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations Dr Steven Chen, met the alumni in the Alumni Atrium. President Teng, Dr Ng and Dr Chen introduced PolyU’s latest development and the work of the Federation. As PolyU will celebrate its 85th anniversary next year, President Teng invited the alumni to support and join the celebration events. Alumnus Kevin Han and alumnus Ray Liu, representatives of alumni graduated in 2010 and 2011 respectively, shared their feelings after graduated for 10 years, as well as treasurable videos of their fond memories at PolyU. The event was hosted by 2010 graduate Anthony Zou and 2011 graduate Wayne Wu, creating a relaxed and happy atmosphere. Some alumni in the Mainland and overseas also participated in the event online, bringing together the alumni from different regions.

PolyU Shanghai Alumni Network – 1st Annual General Meeting

The 1st Annual General Meeting of PolyU Shanghai Alumni Network was successfully held on 19 Sep 2020 at Grand Skylight Gardens Hotel, Shanghai. The event received overwhelming response with about 100 guests and alumni attended. President Professor Jin-Guang Teng, Executive Vice President Dr Miranda Lou, Director of Chinese Mainland Affairs  Professor Haitian Lu and the Mainland Alumni Affairs team joined the meeting via Zoom in Hong Kong. Dr Lou addressed a remarks and President Teng delivered a presentation on PolyU’s latest development to the alumni. Mr Cheung Hon Wan, President of PolyU Shanghai Alumni Network concluded the fruitful results of the Network over the past 18 months and set out the Network’s resolution for the coming year. Furthermore, a revised constitution of the Network was passed and adopted by the participated alumni, and an expansion of executive committee members was achieved with additional 12 young alumni elected. The evening was full of highlights. We were honored to have invited our alumni, Mr Niko Wang, Executive Director of CHT Hotel and Tourism School and CEO of Linkedtour.com, Mr Jacky Huen, Founder and CEO of Synet and Dr Louis Lee, Physiotherapist and Lecturer of Physical, mental health and body movement to give us talks on their professions on tourism, job hunt and physiotherapy respectively. PolyU PRD Alumni Network – Visit to Tencent

On 10 August 2021, a delegation visit to Tencent Headquarters, the Tencent Seafront Towers, was organised by PolyU Pearl River Delta Alumni Network. Ms Chen Lijuan, President of PRD Alumni Network, Ms Li Zhuan, Training Manager of PolyU Shenzhen Research Institute, alumni, staff of PolyU Shenzhen Research Institute, representatives of Postdoctoral Fellows joined the visit. A guided tour at the Tencent showroom was given to the delegation and followed by a sharing talk on talent management by Mr He Jinghua, PolyU alumnus and leader of the Tencent Academy. The delegation enjoyed a fruitful discussion during the talk. As a token of appreciation for the hospitality, President Chen and Ms Li presented souveniors to alumnus He.
