International Outreach

ELC’s services have reached out to a wider community beyond Hong Kong.

Support for teachers on the mainland

Staff of ELC have been serving as advisors to the “Train-the-trainers” Programme, jointly funded and organised by the Hong Kong Tin Ka Ping Foundation and Chongqing Education Commission. It is a teacher training programme in which outstanding primary and secondary English subject teachers are identified and trained to serve as trainers for their fellow colleagues in Chongqing counties. ELC has conducted training courses and visits to Hong Kong schools for these teachers.

PolyU students’ international service

ELC runs a service-learning subject. Students taking this subject are required to render English classes for less advantaged children. Starting from 2015, in addition to HK, students taking this subject have a chance to teach English in Taiwan and Cambodia, as well as on the China mainland.

Courses for international students

ELC has experience in running intensive English courses for international students. We have served groups from Kyung Hee University and Sookmyung Women’s University from South Korea, and National Yokohama University from Japan. These courses comprise:

  • formal English classes facilitated by ELC teachers
  • group activities led by PolyU students
  • lectures and workshops about Hong Kong history and culture, and
  • many visits and sight-seeing activities
