Mandatory Pre-WIE Training
Work-Integrated Education (WIE) is a mandatory graduation requirement for all UGC-funded full-time Bachelor’s degree students at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). To ensure you are fully prepared for the workplace, you must complete the Mandatory Pre-WIE Training before starting your internship to receive department endorsement.
Intended Learning Outcomes:
Upon completing this training, you will be able to:
- Academic & Practical Integration: Connect classroom theories to workplace tasks to enhance analytical and problem-solving skills in professional settings.
- Expectation & Communication Management: Navigate "internship shock" by adapting to workplace cultures, setting learning goals, and proactively seeking feedback from supervisors.
- Workplace Ethics & Professional Attributes: Identify and embody key professional traits, including commitment, perseverance, initiative, accountability, and data privacy awareness.
- Onboarding & Offboarding Procedures: Apply essential operational practices for the first day, final-week handovers, and post-WIE document submission.
- Self-Reflection & Career Planning: Utilise learning journals to evaluate your progress, celebrate small achievements, and align your internship experiences with future career goals.
Modes of Study
You can complete your Pre-WIE Training through one of two flexible modes:
1) In-Person Training
Schedule: February to May (dates to be announced by the College of Undergraduate Studies)
Estimated Time: 60 minutes
2) Online Training (LEARN@PolyU)
Availability: Year-round via Blackboard.
Estimated Time: 60 minutes to review materials
Steps to Complete:
1.Log in to LEARN@PolyU using your NetID and NetPassword.
2.Navigate to Courses and select the CUS Mandatory Pre-WIE Training 2026 tutorial.
3.Review the study materials.
- Assessment Requirement: You must complete an online quiz and achieve a passing score of at least 6 out of 11.
- Steps to Complete:
1.Log in to LEARN@PolyU using your NetID and NetPassword.
2.Navigate to Courses and select the CUS Mandatory Pre-WIE Training 2026 tutorial.
3.Complete the 11-question quiz.
4.Upon passing, download your Certificate of Completion from the platform and submit it to your department for Pre-WIE endorsement.
