OPAA 2024 Annual General Meeting and Luncheon

On 24 January, 21 members of the Association as well as PolyU representatives joined the 2024 Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) and Annual General Meeting (AGM). During the EGM, they approved the amendments to the Memorandum and Articles of Association, allowing for the inclusion of "Associate Members" who are outstanding alumni awardees at the faculty, school and department levels.  Following the EGM, the AGM took place, where members received the President's Report, adopted the Association's accounts for the year ending June 30, 2024, and appointed BDO Limited as the Honorary Auditors for the ensuring year. They also appointed new members of the Board of Directors for the term 2024-2026. Additionally, members extended their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Ir Dr Samson Tam Wai-ho, JP who has made tremendous contributions to the Board over the years. The newly elected seventh Board of Directors (2024-2026) includes: President Mr Dennis HO Chiu-ping (2017 Awardee) Deputy President Ir Prof. Alfred SIT Wing-hang, GBS, JP (2021 Awardee) Honorary Secretary Mr Elton NG Chun-ting (2019 Awardee) Honorary Treasurer Mr Jack CHAN Hoi, JP (2021 Awardee) Directors Mr Stephen AU Ling-ming (2017 Awardee) Mr CHIANG Tung-keung (2024 Awardee) Mr Bayern CHUI Kin-pong (2022 Awardee) Mr Tino KWAN Wing-kuen (2021 Awardee) Ir Dr Kelvin LEUNG Kai-yuen (2021 Awardee) Sr Augustine WONG Ho-ming, JP (2021 Awardee) Ms Mary YU Wah (2021 Awardee) The 1st Board of Directors’ Meeting was held right after the AGM. With the diverse backgrounds, strengths and rich experience of the new Board of Directors, the Association will continue to be proactive in bringing together resources to enhance the education, research and knowledge transfer of PolyU. Everyone gathered for lunch after the Board of Directors’ Meeting, fostering mutual acquaintance and exchanging recent updates. The Board of Directors expressed gratitude for all the enthusiastic opinions, and eagerly anticipated future occasions to convene and contribute to the alma mater.

【Alumni Singing Club】Sing & Shine @ Alumni Atrium

In celebration of the Year of the Snake, over 20 talented alumni gathered for an evening of harmonious melodies and joyful camaraderie at the “Sing & Shine @ Alumni Atrium” event on 20 January. The alumni brought together a mix of youthful energy and seasoned experience, filling the atmosphere with music, laughter, and unity as they sang a diverse collection of songs from various generations. The gathering was further elevated by the presence of Mr Darron Sun, President of The Computing Alumni Association of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Prof. Henry Chan, Associate Professor and Associate Head of the Department of Computing, whose cover songs set a lively tone for the night. Following the event, a new alumni body, tentatively known as the PolyU Alumni Singing Club, was immediately formed. It is going to provide a platform for members to continue sharing their passion for singing and exchanging thoughts on their musical experiences, fostering both new and old friendships.  The evening was a delightful fusion of music and new connections as alumni joined their voices in harmony. It was truly a night to remember, alive with the melodies of friendship, the joy of music, and the promise of new beginnings for the PolyU alumni community, united by their love for singing!

The 40th Graduation Anniversary Reunion of 1984 Translation and Interpretation Graduates

A day filled with laughter, nostalgia and cherished memories awaited the Class of 1984 graduates in Translation and Interpretation as they returned to campus for a reunion on 27 December 2024, celebrating their 40th graduation anniversary.  Representatives from the Alumni Affairs Office (AAO) warmly welcomed the graduates at the Alumni Atrium with special souvenirs. The alumni were impressed to discover a vibrant and inviting space designed to foster strong connections among graduates. They also revisited their home department, capturing commemorative photos and reliving their school days. One of the highlights was a visit to the Pao Yue-Kong Library, where the alumni were amazed by its innovative design and modern facilities. After exploring the campus, the seven friends gathered for dinner at Ju Yin House, and they were honoured to have their former professor, Dr C.S. Chan, join them.  This heartwarming gathering provided the Class of 1984 with a meaningful way to conclude 2024. Indeed, alumni reunions serve as a wonderful opportunity for reconnection; looking ahead, AAO welcomes more and more graduates to celebrate their graduation anniversaries at their alma mater!

PolyU honours four distinguished graduates at Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2024 Award Presentation Ceremony and Dinner

On 16 December 2024, the University presented the “Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2024” to the four honourees at Hotel ICON. Over 200 guests attended the award presentation ceremony and dinner, including the distinguished graduates and their families and friends, proposers, senior management and staff members of PolyU, as well as dozens of past award recipients who dedicated their time to celebrate this great occasion together and offered all awardees their sincere congratulations. Dr Lam Tai-fai, GBS, JP, Council Chairman of PolyU and Chairman of the Award Selection Committee, and Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, BBS, JP, President of PolyU, presented the awards to the four notable alumni. Recipients of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2024, in alphabetical order of surname, are: Mr Chiang Tung-keung (Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, CLP Holdings Limited); Dr Shen Peng (Founder, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer, Waterdrop Inc.); Mr Banting Sze Wai-pan (Founder and Chairman, Freetech Road Recycling Technology (Holdings) Limited); and The Hon. Perry Yiu Pak-leung, MH, JP (Legislative Council Member (Tourism) of the HKSAR; Chairman, China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited). As this year marks the 30th anniversary of PolyU as a university, the event began with the PolyU Choir gracing the stage with a heartfelt rendition of the “PolyU Song” and video highlights of the PolyU Musical “Forward and Beyond”, celebrating with audience the University’s achievements in nurturing leaders and contributing to society over the decades. In his welcoming address, Prof. Teng expressed his pleasure in meeting all the distinguished guests, and commended the award recipients for their outstanding achievements and significant contributions to both their alma mater and society. He also expressed his grateful thanks to the Award Selection Committee, as well as the Faculties and Schools, for their vital role in making the event a success. Seizing this special moment, the award recipients shared their deep appreciation for their proposers, the Award Selection Committee, and PolyU, as well as their gratitude for the unwavering support of their families and friends throughout the years. The Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award aims to give recognition to distinguished graduates of PolyU and its forerunners. Since its launch in 1996, 109 graduates have been honoured for great distinction in their respective fields, dedicated support to their alma mater, as well as impactful contributions to the wider community. They are fitting testament to PolyU’s accomplishments in nurturing leaders for Hong Kong, the Nation and the world. Please visit here for details of the Award. PolyU Sichuan Alumni Network Annual General Meeting and Alumni Gathering

On 14 December 2024, PolyU Sichuan Alumni Network held its Annual General Meeting and alumni gathering in Chengdu. Dr Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President of PolyU and Ir Professor Edwin Cheng, Dean of the Faculty of Business attended the event. The Network held its Annual General Meeting in the afternoon. Dr Luo Quan, President of PolyU Sichuan Alumni Network, concluded the fruitful results of the Network in 2024 and shared the Network's plan in 2025. Dr Miranda Lou expressed her gratitude to the Network and looked forward to serving more alumni in the future. Another highlight of the day was the alumni gathering held in the evening. During the gathering, Dr Lou introduced the latest development of the University. A forum was also featured the topical sharing sessions by Dr Yang Ou, Mr Li Haijian, President of PolyU Pearl River Delta Alumni Network, and Mr Zhang Jinyi, Vice President of PolyU Sichuan Alumni Network on recent hot topics. The alumni had an opportunity to catch up with each other and enjoyed the lucky draw. The event concluded successfully, filled with laughter and joyful conversations.

PolyU honours four outstanding alumni

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is pleased to announce that it has conferred the “Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2024” on four alumni in recognition of their significant achievements in their respective fields as well as their contributions to their alma mater and society. They are fitting testament to PolyU’s accomplishments in nurturing leaders for Hong Kong, the Nation and the world. The Award aims to give recognition todistinguished graduates of PolyU, as well as to those of its forerunners, namely the Government Trade School, Hong Kong Technical College and the Hong Kong Polytechnic. Recipients of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2024, in alphabetical order of surname, are: Mr CHIANG Tung-keung Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, CLP Holdings Limited   Dr SHEN Peng Founder, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer, Waterdrop Inc.     Mr Banting SZE Wai-pan Founder and Chairman, Freetech Road Recycling Technology (Holdings) Limited   The Hon. Perry YIU Pak-leung, MH, JP Legislative Council Member (Tourism) of the HKSAR; Chairman, China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited (Please refer to the Appendix for recipient biodata.) The University level Award Selection Committee was chaired by Dr LAM Tai-fai, GBS, JP, PolyU Council Chairman. The ex-officio members included Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, BBS, JP, PolyU President; and Dr Miranda LOU, MH, PolyU Executive Vice President. Other members included Ir Arthur LEE Kam-hung, PolyU Council Member; Dr Roy CHUNG Chi-ping, GBS, JP, Honorary Chairman of the University Court; Ir Dr Samson TAM Wai-ho, JP, President of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Association; and Ir YAU Kwok-fai, President of the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations. Since the launch of the Award in 1996, 109 recipients have been honoured for great distinction in their respective fields, dedicated support to their alma mater, as well as impactful contributions to the wider community. The Award Presentation Ceremony will be held on 16 December 2024.
