The Alumni Photography and Films Club and the Alumni Performing Arts Appreciation Club hosted the “Raman Hui Encounter: Stories Behind Monster Hunt” event on 16 April 2026. Mr Raman Hui, an internationally acclaimed animation master and film director, is also a PolyU University Fellow, Outstanding Alumnus, and this year’s Artist-in-Residence. He returned to his alma mater to share his creative journey with the alumni community, from Hollywood classics such as Shrek and Kung Fu Panda to Monster Hunt.
Mr Hui is currently presenting his solo exhibition, “Imagination in Life: Exploring the Art of Animation”, on the PolyU campus. Alumni not only enjoyed the opportunity to meet and take photos with “The Father of Shrek”, but also joined a VIP tour of the exhibition led by Mr Hui himself. During the tour, he discussed with participants how he integrates Eastern storytelling with Western animation techniques. Alumni also attended the “Monster Hunt Film Screening and Pre-Screening Sharing” alongside the wider PolyU community, where Mr Hui reflected on the filmmaking process and shared behind‑the‑scenes stories of his box-office record-breaking Monster Hunt, before the audience revisited the classic on the big screen with his personal reflections in mind.
Centred on this pioneering figure in global animation, the evening provided a platform for alumni interested in film, creativity, and visual art to connect and exchange ideas.
