On 7 March 2026, the inauguration ceremony of the PolyU Shaanxi Alumni Network was held in Beijing. This milestone marks a new chapter in which the strength of PolyU alumni and the spirit of “To learn and to apply, for the benefit of mankind” are carried forward from generation to generation across Shaanxi. It also builds a bridge for closer cooperation between education, research, and industry between Shaanxi and Hong Kong.
At the ceremony, Dr Lam Tai-fai, Chairman, the Council of PolyU; Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU; Mr Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, PolyU Council Member; Dr Raymond Lee Man-chun, PolyU Council Member; Dr the Hon. Thomas So Shiu-tsung, PolyU Council Member; Professor Jiannong Cao, Vice President (Education); Professor Qiping Shen, Associate Vice President (Global Partnerships); Professor Haitian Lu, Director of Mainland Development; Ms Amy Li, Assistant Director of Mainland Development, together with the presidents of the mainland alumni networks, representatives from universities in Beijing, and PolyU alumni across Mainland China, jointly witnessed this historic moment.
During the ceremony, Professor Lu Haitian outlined the strategic positioning of the Shaanxi Alumni Network: to consolidate alumni resources in the Northwest region, deepen innovation through collaboration between universities and local governments, and support the region’s high-quality development. He then formally read out the list of the first executive committee members. This roster reflects the University’s trust and expectations, and also brings together PolyU alumni across Shaanxi in a shared commitment and sense of responsibility.
Professor Jiannong Cao presented the flag to the Shaanxi Alumni Network. Dr Gangzhi Zhao, the Founding President, accepted the flag on behalf of all PolyU alumni in Shaanxi. The flag symbolises both the passing down of PolyU’s values across generations and the deep, enduring bonds of alumni friendship. With this, the Shaanxi Alumni Network has been officially incorporated into PolyU’s global alumni network, marking a new phase in the development of alumni work in the Northwest.
At the ceremony, Professor Jiannong Cao, Professor Lu Haitian, and Ms Amy Li jointly encouraged the executive committee to serve as a central hub for alumni engagement - bringing alumni wisdom together, building a bridge for Shaanxi-Hong Kong cooperation, and demonstrating PolyU’s sense of responsibility and dedication in supporting alumni growth and contributing to local development.
Looking ahead, the Shaanxi Alumni Network will carry out its mission of “Serving Alumni, Uniting Strengths, and Supporting University Development”. It will host regular networking and exchange activities, as well as industry–academia-research matchmaking events, to create a warm and supportive “PolyU Alumni Home” for all.
