Ir Dr Cheung is a Chartered Mechanical, Electrical and Industrial Engineer with over 30 years of technical and senior managerial experience in aviation, aircraft engineering, and artificial intelligence. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET); the Institution of Mechanical Engineers; The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE); the Institution of Engineers, Australia; The Hong Kong Institute of Directors; and The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong. Until his retirement in January 2020, Dr Cheung was Chief Executive Officer of China Aircraft Services Limited (CASL). He joined the company in 1997 and oversaw its growth from a small team to more than 1,300 staff. Under his leadership, CASL was consistently profitable, and received numerous awards for safety, innovation, and corporate social responsibility. He also served as a Director of Shanghai Eastern Aircraft Maintenance Limited, a joint venture between China Eastern Airlines and CASL. He is now CEO of Aerovision Technology Limited and Director of Great Link Engineering Limited. Dr Cheung remains active in promoting aviation, innovation, and technology development in Hong Kong. In addition to serving as President of the Hong Kong Aviation Industry Association, he is a Director of the Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre. He is also a Member of the Advisory Committees of the Aviation Development and Three Runways System under the Transport and Logistics Bureau, and the Hong Kong Centre for Logistics Robotics. His past service includes membership of the Hong Kong Airport Technology Advisory Council, and the Steering Committee of the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy. He also served as Council Member, Discipline Representative, and Division Chair of HKIE, and Chair of IET(HK). At PolyU, Dr Cheung serves as Chair of the Advisory Committee of the Mechanical Engineering Department, and as Industrial Advisor to the Intellectual Property Assessment Committee. Dr Cheung received the awards China’s Outstanding Persons for Enterprise Innovation of the Year in 2010, China Economic Personage in 2015, and Outstanding Mechanical Engineering Alumni from PolyU in 2017. Since 2018, he has also served as a Member of the Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of Shenyang.
