【PolyU Former Staff Network】“Understanding and Managing Common Age-Related Eye Problems” Talk

On 10 June 2025, more than 20 PolyU former staff members gathered on campus for the talk, “Understanding and Managing Common Age-Related Eye Problems”. Ms Lena Li, a PolyU alumna and optometrist at the University’s Optometry Clinic, shared her expertise on maintaining lifelong visual health.  The audience listened attentively as Ms Li discussed age-related eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. She translated complex medical concepts into practical, actionable tips. Through vivid case studies, participants learned to identify early warning signs and adopt daily protective strategies. The session resonated deeply, equipping attendees with evidence-based methods and lifestyle advice to help slow vision changes. After the talk, many participants stayed to interact further. They not only exchanged personal tips on eye care but also joyfully reconnected with fellow former staff members. 【Alumni Tea Appreciation Club】Chinese Tea — Savour and Speak

The inaugural event of the Alumni Tea Appreciation Club, “Chinese Tea — Savour and Speak”, was organised on 28 May 2025. Participants embarked on a sensory journey, exploring the art of Chinese tea under the guidance of esteemed alumnus Dr Bacon Ng, a renowned Chinese tea expert and registered occupational therapist. Attendees enjoyed a live tea demonstration and tasting of various exquisite teas, including the rare and seasonal yellow tea, allowing them to experience the diverse flavours of Chinese tea. Dr Ng’s captivating presentation, which blended tea culture with rehabilitation sciences, resonated with the participating alumni. The session buzzed with interaction as the alumni tea enthusiasts eagerly posed questions and exchanged ideas with Dr Ng. Several participants also took the opportunity to engage in hands-on brewing, further immersing themselves in the craft. After the event, many attendees stayed at the Alumni Atrium, eager to continue their discussions with Dr Ng and delve deeper into the artistry of tea appreciation. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and a shared love for this tradition, and all looked forward to future events organised by the Alumni Tea Appreciation Club.

【Alumni Culture and Heritage Tours Club】Lamma Scenic Hike

The Alumni Culture and Heritage Tours Club organised the “Lamma Scenic Hike” on 24 May 2025. Around 30 alumni gathered at Central Ferry Piers in the morning and set off for Sok Kwu Wan on Lamma Island to explore the scenic Ling Kok Shan and its historical rock formations. Among the popular trails, the Club specifically selected this route, which is renowned for its stunning views of the island’s distinctive coastline. After three hours of hiking, some alumni were eager to extend their outing and continued to explore Lamma Island with new friends they met. Everyone expressed satisfaction and looked forward to discovering more great places with club members in the future. During this group outing, representatives from the Alumni Affairs Office also took the opportunity to invite participants to join the alumni associations of their disciplines and to save the date for the upcoming Alumni Sports and Wellness Day on 26 July, encouraging them to stay connected with their alma mater.

【Alumni Chess & Boardgames Club x Alumni Singing Club】Alumni Nights of Singing and Board Games

The second regular gathering, “Alumni Night of Singing and Board Games”, jointly hosted by the Alumni Chess & Boardgames Club and the Alumni Singing Club, took place successfully on 22 May 2025. Over 50 alumni and students gathered at the Alumni Atrium for an evening filled with strategic games and musical enjoyment. Both newcomers and returning friends immersed themselves in the fascinating world of board games and songs. First-time players particularly appreciated learning strategies from experienced members of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Student Affairs Office Chess and Boardgames Club. The karaoke session was equally impressive, with singing enthusiasts showcasing their vocal talents by performing timeless classics that filled the venue with beautiful melodies. As the gathering came to a close, participants continued to shar their appreciation in WhatsApp groups: "The student instructors were so helpful – thank you for teaching us!" "Had so much fun today, thanks everyone!" "Splendor was absolutely fantastic!" "We played until the very end to determine the winner 😏" "Another wonderful singing experience!" 【Alumni Foodie Club】Sake Tasting Night & Healthy Food Innovation

On 21 May 2025, the Alumni Foodie Club hosted an unforgettable evening of sake exploration and cutting-edge food science, drawing around 40 alumni back to PolyU for a delightful gathering. The event  blended education, tasting, and networking, leaving attendees inspired and eager for more. The evening began with Dr Gail Jinhui Chang, Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at PolyU, who shared her groundbreaking research on fungus-based fat replacers for healthier desserts – an innovation that could revolutionise low-fat food production. Alumni were especially intrigued by her latest healthy food creations, including mooncakes, ice cream, cookies, and NMN-infused products. Dr Chang generously prepared handmade cookies for everyone to enjoy, perfectly complementing the evening’s sake selection. The tasting session was elevated by Mr Micky Chan, a distinguished “Sake Samurai” and certified sake expert, who captivated the audience with his lively and insightful presentation. Alumni had the rare opportunity to taste four exceptional sakes that were carefully selected. They learnt about sake production, types, and selection tips. Mr Chan’s engaging style sparked lively discussions, with alumni eagerly raising questions.  The event was a resounding success as alumni connected over their shared passions for food, drink, and innovation. Many also expressed excitement for the upcoming “Taste Together ‧ District Flavors” Series in June, which promises more culinary adventures. 【Alumni Football Club】Sunday Friendly Game

Building on the momentum of the “Saturday KICKOFF: Alumni Association Football Encounter” on 15 March 2025, the Alumni Football Club organised another exciting futsal game on 27 April 2025. The event brought together around 40 alumni from various disciplines, who are members of the Club, to enjoy a fun-filled and energetic Sunday afternoon of friendly and exciting matches. With the official establishment of the Alumni Football Club, core members taking part in the event, including Mr Johnny Ip Chi-kin, Mr Perry Chow Hoi-chu, Mr Desmond Fung Man-yiu, and Mr Justin Chan Yu-him, are committed to supporting the Club’s future development. Aiming at actively fostering connections among alumni football enthusiasts, the Alumni Football Club will hold meets and games regularly to celebrate members’ shared passion for football, while providing opportunities to exchange insights and strategies through friendly matches. 【Alumni Running and Jogging Club】Run Like a Pro: Workshop with Lukas Muteti

On 25 April 2025, around 40 alumni gathered on campus for “Run Like a Pro: Workshop with Lukas Muteti”. Mr Lukas Muteti, a professional long-distance running athlete and experienced coach from Kenya, shared his expertise and passion for the sport. PolyU alumnus and core member of the Alumni Running and Jogging Club, Prof. Vincent Leung, who is also Professor of Practice (Marketing) at the Faculty of Business, facilitated the session with Cantonese instructions. Spirits were high as Lukas transformed the alumni participants into a dynamic running team at the PolyU Jogging Track. From warm-up drills to a progressive run, heart-pumping cardio, and post-run stretching, the specially designed “Kenyan training” programme unlocked the runners’ potential with a brand new experience. After the training session, alumni were inspired by Lukas’s sharing, in which he recounted his running journey and reminded everyone that with dedication and passion, any goal is within reach. Participants left the workshop carrying the sweat, laughter, and shared sense of accomplishment from the evening – feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and motivated to continue their running journeys. 【Alumni Chess & Boardgames Club x Alumni Singing Club】Alumni Nights of Singing and Board Games

Following the official launch of the Alumni Chess & Boardgames Club and the Alumni Singing Club, over 50 alumni returned to their alma mater on 24 April 2025 for the first regular gathering, “Alumni Night of Singing and Board Games”. Set in the vibrant atmosphere of the Alumni Atrium, the event brought graduates together to spark connections through the joy of board games and the magic of melodies.   Members of the two interest clubs were highly engaged in this crossover event. Board game enthusiasts enjoyed a variety of activities, ranging from strategic challenges to light-hearted games, rekindling old friendships while forging new ones over the course of the delightful evening. At the same time, singing lovers had a great time performing their favourite songs with passion. They even brought the night to its climax with a spirited sing-along of the classic Cantopop hit, “Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies”. 【Alumni Tours and Adventures Club】Lantau Scenic Hike

Following the spring outing to Tung Lung Chau and Lei Yue Mun last month, the Alumni Tours and Adventures Club organised another exciting outdoor event on Lantau Island on 20 April 2025. On the sunny morning of the Easter holiday, more than twenty graduates from various generations gathered at Tung Chung Town Centre, eager to reconnect and ready to set off amidst joy and laughter. Dr Felix Yip and Mr Jason Kan, core members of the Club, led the group to Shek Mun Kap Village, the starting point of the hike. Along the trail, participants admired ancient temples renowned for their excellent photo opportunities. After about an hour, they reached a platform offering fine views of the airport in the Islands District, signalling that the destination was close, much to the excitement of the group. They arrived at Ngong Ping around noon, where everyone captured memorable photos beneath the majestic Big Buddha that marked a successful conclusion of the Club’s hiking event. After the hike, some newly acquainted PolyU “hiking buddies” were reluctant to part ways and chose to continue their camaraderie at Po Lin Monastery Vegetarian Kitchen for a delightful meal. This perfectly aligns with the mission of the interest club: to connect graduates through travel and foster partnerships in sharing and exploration!
