PolyU Alumni Sports and Wellness Day

On 26 July 2025, the “PolyU Alumni Sports and Wellness Day” was held on the PolyU campus, bringing together over 3,300 alumni, their friends and family members, University staff, students, and other participants for an exciting line-up of new sports, sports and health technologies, expert-led workshops, thrilling matches, and more. On this day dedicated to celebrating athletic joy and promoting a healthy lifestyle for all,  the kick-off ceremony and futsal match were specially streamed live on multiple online platforms, attracting a total of over 21,000 views. The day began with a vibrant kick-off ceremony at the Wong Man and Tang Kit Wah Global Student Hub, featuring performances of breakdancing and beatboxing that set an energetic tone for the event. President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng warmly greeted attendees, expressing his joy at reuniting with the alumni family for this dynamic celebration of sports, health, and technology. He especially highlighted the event’s special significance, coinciding with the historic co-hosting of the National Games by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao for the first time. Apart from representatives from the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations, the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Association, local alumni associations, mainland alumni networks, and alumni interest clubs, the ceremony also invited special guest Ms Wang Xin, former Olympic diving gold medallist and current PhD student and Sports Advisor at PolyU’s Research Institute for Sports Science and Technology (RISports), who joined student athletes to share inspiring stories. Together, they led a symbolic relay race that united the crowd, while officiating guests onstage lit torches symbolising the passing of tradition, officially inaugurating the event to resounding applause.   Throughout the day, the campus buzzed with activities across various themed zones. Participants eagerly tried out new sports while more than 1,000 people signed up for experience classes in floor curling, flyball, and pickleball. Many alumni and their family members also enjoyed the Mini Olympics, with obstacle courses and virtual golf challenges adding an extra layer of fun to the festivities. Sports and health technologies were a key highlight as researchers from RISports showcased their innovative projects to attendees. Visitors were invited to explore advanced functional sportswear, cutting-edge equipment, and interactive tools and services, such as AR eye coordination, gait analysis, 3D foot scanning, AI eye disease screening, scoliosis assessment, and more, providing a first-hand look at the University’s impactful research outcomes. Besides, the five health and wellness workshops drew close to 600 registrants. Expert alumni led sessions on stress management, mind-body exercises, and sports vision training, while alumni who represented Hong Kong in the 15th National Games shared their insightful journeys as orienteering and Chinese wrestling athletes. To further promote well-being, two mass yoga sessions gave groups of participants a peaceful and rejuvenating experience on campus. Another major highlight of the “PolyU Alumni Sports and Wellness Day” was the series of thrilling matches, where over a hundred  alumni showcased their passion and sportsmanship in men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles badminton matches, mixed singles table tennis matches, as well as futsal matches. Notably, intense games were delivered by football teams from the Electrical Engineering Alumni Association of PolyU (EEAA), The HK PolyU MBA Alumni Association (MBAAA), Department of Applied Social Sciences Graduates Association of PolyU (APSSGA), and The Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics Alumni Association of PolyU (LSGIAA), along with Snake Club and PUA Squad formed by the Alumni Football Club. EEAA triumphed, while APSSGA then took part in the “Cross-Border Alumni Teams Friendly Match” against The PolyU Pearl River Delta Alumni Network Team, fostering meaningful exchanges between regions. The tournament concluded with a friendly match between the Fei Yang alumni football team, led by Dr Lam Tai-fai, PolyU Council Chairman, and EEAA and MBAAA, captivating the audience and earning enthusiastic cheers. The energy carried through to the prize presentation ceremony at the end of the day. Winners of the badminton, table tennis, and futsal matches, along with awardees of the “PolyU Alumni Virtual Run”, were honoured on stage. Launched in June as part of the “PolyU Alumni Sports and Wellness Day”, the Virtual Run connected 200 alumni from the United Kingdom, Japan, the Philippines, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Tibet, and beyond, symbolising the global unity of the PolyU alumni community and adding even greater meaning to the event. As the day came to a close, graduates from across generations, disciplines, and industries left with commemorative gifts and treasured memories. The Alumni Affairs Office expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants, faculties, schools, departments, alumni associations, and other units. We look forward to reuniting with the alumni family in the near future to create more wonderful moments together. Please stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram, as more photos and videos will be uploaded to the albums.
