Biography

Prof. Zhiqiang Li holds a PhD in Mechanical Design and Manufacturing from the University of Science and Technology Beijing, an MBA from Tsinghua University, and a BSc in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University. Having possessed more than 30 years of work experience in aerospace industry, Prof. Li is one of China's foremost leaders in lightweight aircraft structures. He currently serves as the Chief Expert of Manufacturing Technology at the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) and Director of the Science and Technology Committee at the AVIC Manufacturing Technology Institute (MTI). Prior to this, he served as President of MTI (2016–2025) and Chief Engineer of the Beijing Aeronautical Manufacturing Technology Research Institute (BAMTRI) (2011–2016). With his deep expertise and sustained efforts, Prof. Li has made landmark contributions to the development of integral structures forming technology for aerospace applications. He has led the development of National Standards, published two monographs, authored over 150 research papers, and holds 83 patents. Prof. Li currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Lightweight Materials and Manufacture. He was previously a visiting professor at Imperial College London and a member of the Research Committee of The Welding Institute (TWI) in the UK. He served as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) during both the 13th and 14th Sessions.
