Summary

Abstract

Landing safety has long been a concern in commercial airlines. In a landing system, a team with heterogeneous operators, including pilots and air traffic controllers (ATCOs), is required to collaboratively accomplish safe landing. However, owing to time pressure, limited airspace in the terminal area, and inevitable goal differences between parties, interaction conflicts have been identified as one of the critical issues in landing safety. From the view of organizational ergonomics, interaction conflicts are mostly derived from the gaps of mental model between parties, known as mental model disconnects. Accordingly, a series of research was conducted to approach how underlying mental model disconnects jeopardize landing safety.  Furthermore, the corresponding solutions were proposed to mitigate the negative effects of mental model disconnects for better landing safety.
