Student Message

As a Bachelor's holder in maritime law, I knew that progressing in the shipping industry requires more than legal knowledge, it demands real industry insight.

The PolyU MSc ISTL programme became that essential platform, blending solid theory with hands-on shipping practice. The curriculum stretches far beyond maritime law into shipping economics, air and logistics, and intermodal transport, giving me a truly integrated view.

What sets ISTL apart is its international outlook and the unique mix of fresh graduates and seasoned professionals learning side by side. Exchanging ideas with classmates already working in the industry accelerated my own entry into the shipping community.

The teaching team, combining leading academics and veteran practitioners, didn't just teach us in the classroom; they brought us directly into the heart of the industry, from Hong Kong Maritime Week to exclusive networking events, so learning opportunities were never in short supply.

On top of that, our professors and alumni form a tight-knit family, constantly sharing job leads and career guidance with genuine generosity. If you want to immerse yourself in the shipping world, ISTL is your best voyage.

Welcome aboard and bon voyage - let's sail together

WANG Zhisheng

Coming from a dry bulk carrier company with years of working experience, I know the maritime industry quite well. But this programme went far beyond my expectations. It opened my eyes to the bigger picture - from container shipping and port terminal operations - giving me a comprehensive understanding of the entire maritime eco-system.

Looking back, I really enjoyed exchanging ideas with my classmates who were also maritime professionals from different sectors, and learning directly from professors with deep industry experience. Their practical insights were invaluable. I was also surprised to learn how AI is changing the maritime industry. The knowledge I gained has helped me to incorporate these new tools and thinking into my daily work with greater confidence.

Even with my prior work experience, investing time in this programme was absolutely worthwhile. It broadened my perspective and sharpened my skills in ways that professional experience alone could not. I highly recommend this programme to anyone who wants to take their maritime career to the next level.
