  • This programme is offered on both full-time and part-time bases to give students maximum flexibility to engage in full-time or part-time study loads. Under normal circumstances, full-time and part-time students can complete the programme within 1 year and 2 years, respectively. Students who wish to extend their studies beyond the normal duration can submit such a request to the Department for consideration.

  • Applicants are required to choose either full-time or part-time study on their application for admission to the programme. Students who study full-time are required to take a minimum of 9 credits per semester.

Aims & Characteristics

Programme Aims

  • Develop Advanced Bilingual and Multicultural Communication Skills: Equip students with the ability to communicate effectively in English, Cantonese and/or Putonghua across diverse cultures, platforms, and professional contexts, with a focus on empathy, leadership, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Cultivate Expertise in Bilingual Event Hosting and Digital Innovation: Provide comprehensive training in the strategic positioning, planning and hosting of international events—including conferences, exhibitions, and mega-events—with an emphasis on bilingual delivery, digital and hybrid formats, and the integration of AI-driven tools and technologies.

  • Foster Strategic, Critical, and Innovative Thinking: Enable students to analyse industry trends, anticipate challenges, and develop creative solutions for event hosting and global communication in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven environment.

  • Promote Professionalism and Industry Engagement: Connect students with industry leaders, professional bodies, and real-world projects to facilitate networking, internships, and career advancement, ensuring strong alignment with employer expectations and industry standards.

Characteristics

 

1. Bilingual, Multicultural, and Strategic Communication 

Develop effective communication skills in English, Cantonese, and/or Putonghua, with a strong emphasis on cross-cultural engagement, stakeholder management, and professional communication across diverse contexts.

 

2. Digital Innovation and Industry-Relevant Expertise

Gain hands-on experience with digital tools and AI technologies for event hosting, including professional etiquette, audience engagement, and data analytics, while receiving comprehensive training in strategic planning, protocol, and crisis communication for international events.

 

3. Experiential Learning with Global and Regional Focus 

Explore real-world cases, participate in projects and internships to build industry connections and practical skills, while deepening understanding of international and Greater Bay Area communication to support Hong Kong’s role as a premier events and cultural hub.

While formal accreditation is not required for careers in global communication and event hosting, the programme is strongly supported by experienced industry leaders and professionals, ensuring its relevance and alignment with current practices. The curriculum is shaped by experts with decades of experience in hosting and managing events, as well as specialists in strategic communication. Strong industry networks and partnerships with leading professional bodies and research hubs provide students with valuable job and internship opportunities, ensuring graduates gain industry-aligned knowledge, practical skills, and access to professional networks. The direct involvement of industry leaders in curriculum development and delivery exposes students to current trends, real-world challenges, and best practices, while the emphasis on bilingual proficiency and global communication empowers graduates to work confidently across linguistic and cultural boundaries.

Graduates of the programme will be well-positioned for diverse roles in event hosting, corporate communications, public relations, marketing, hospitality, tourism, and media. The rapid expansion of global events in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area has created strong demand for professionals with bilingual skills and global communication expertise. With Hong Kong’s emergence as the “Events Capital of Asia” and the government’s proactive support for mega-events, employment opportunities in event management, communications, and related sectors are growing rapidly. The ability to communicate fluently in multiple languages and navigate cross-cultural contexts is now a strategic asset, enabling graduates to facilitate seamless interactions and maximise the impact of international events. Curriculum

Programme Structure

Students are required to take 11 subjects (a total of 31 credits). Each student is required to take 5 Compulsory Subjects and 6 Elective Subjects with at least 2 subjects from the Global Communication and Event Hosting Arts (GCEHA) Block.

Medium of instruction:

The programme is delivered in English, supplemented with Chinese (Putonghua/ Cantonese).

 

Remarks:

Starting from the 2024/25 cohort, students are required to complete the compulsory 1-credit subject “CBS5T01 Professional Ethics and Academic Integrity” to satisfy the Academic Integrity and Ethics (AIE) requirement for graduation. No credit fee will be charged for this subject.
