Programme Aims
The Doctor of Artificial Intelligence (DAI) programme prepares leaders and researchers to address the transformative impact of AI across society. It equips graduates with cutting-edge technical skills to stay ahead of emerging trends and disruptions in the AI landscape, while cultivating the ethical insight when conveying complex AI concepts accessible to a wide range of audiences.
The programme emphasises the ability to conduct original research that tackles real-world challenges and generates innovative solutions. Graduates will be empowered to lead, innovate, and shape the future of AI-driven industries.
Programme Characteristics
The DAI programme integrates advanced AI theories with diverse sectors such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and smart cities. This interdisciplinary approach ensures that graduates are equipped not only with theoretical AI concepts but also the hands-on expertise to implement AI-driven solutions for real-world industry challenges.
Unlike conventional PhDs that focus primarily on theoretical research, the taught Doctor of AI programme combines rigorous coursework—including deep learning, AI governance, and sector-specific applications—with industry collaborations and strategic leadership development. This comprehensive training prepares graduates to drive innovation and lead transformative change at the highest levels of their organisations.
Students will be awarded the Doctor of Artificial Intelligence degree upon successful completion of all required coursework (as outlined in the curriculum) and the submission of a thesis. Graduates can use the title ‘Dr’.
Upon graduation, students should be able to:
-
Demonstrate a mastery of advanced AI knowledge and methodologies, and contribute to the evolution of the field through innovative research and thought leadership.
-
Lead high-impact, interdisciplinary AI projects, champion ethical and responsible practices, and communicate complex ideas effectively to diverse audiences across academic and industry sectors.
-
Anticipate and respond proactively to emerging trends in AI, fostering a culture of lifelong learning, resilience, and continuous professional growth within the global AI community.
To obtain the Doctor of Artificial Intelligence award, students are required to complete 49 credits in total, consisting of:
-
4 Core Subjects (12 credits)
-
4 Elective Subjects (12 credits)
-
Thesis (24 credits)
-
Academic Integrity and Ethics (AIE) subject (1 credit)
Students who do not complete the “CMS6902 Thesis II” (15 credits) but have passed all other required components may be considered for an exit award of MSc in Artificial Intelligence Research Studies.
