Student Message

As an international student, who received my first-ever scholarship at the age of 29, I initially felt nervous and under pressure to prove myself. I am proud to have completed the program with distinction and a top score in just 32 weeks.

One key aspect of the program that motivated me was the freedom to choose subjects, explore the syllabus and express differing opinions. Group projects provided an excellent platform, and open book exams stimulated critical thinking while alleviating pressure. I gained a wide spectrum of knowledge and made valuable connections and friends.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of the professors and staff, especially Petrus Choy, Raymond Wong, Kai Pan, Stephen Li, Judy Tong, Peter Wong, TL Yip, Zhu Ling, Leon Li, Owen Tang, Meifeng Luo, Irene Cheuk and Dong Yang, for facilitating our learning and exploration.

Coming from the conventional marine industry, I found that the course encouraged an open mindset and a broader vision. This enabled me to become an R&D Product Manager for a marine digital solutions company.

After my year-long PolyU journey, I feel certain that this program was the best mid-career realisation of my abilities that I could have asked for. Thank you!

KANNAN Shekkappan

Shipping and logistics play a crucial role in the global economy, and the MSc in International Shipping & Transport Logistics at PolyU has provided me with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in managerial and executive positions within this field. The curriculum offers an in-depth education on a range of industry topics, such as shipping, logistics, economics, finance, law, insurance, marketing and IT applications. The combination of compulsory subjects with a choice of electives offers us a diversity of career paths to pursue. As I planned to join a dry bulk company upon graduation, I focused my study on shipping-related subjects. The Finance for Shipping and Logistics and the Ship Chartering Strategies classes were especially insightful and rewarding, and gave me a solid foundation for my current job in the company.

Being a graduate of an esteemed programme in the industry has also enabled me to expand my professional connections beyond the classroom and connect with fellow alumni and industry experts during networking and social events hosted by the HKSOA. The programme’s emphasis on developing leadership, communication and team management skills within the global context will enhance my career prospects and give me valuable insights in the shipping industry.
