Students of MSc in Multimedia and Entertainment Technology, Aurora Kang, Selene Su, Boris Wong, and Aimee Xing, developed a mobile application ‘StarMall’ with augmented reality technology to help people with intellectual disabilities and autism who lacked self-care skills to obtain independent living skills. The users are able to learn how to buy goods from a virtual store with the assistive audio guide and graphical icons provided on the app.
The team, with the app they developed, was invited by The Yeh Family Philanthropy to join the catalytic fund and social entrepreneurship education. It was also shortlisted for the Science and Technology Entrepreneur Programme (STEP) and the Good Seed Fund.
