Congratulations to the PolyU SAO Rowing Club on being the sole champion in the tertiary education sector in the rowing competition jointly held by the Water Supplies Department of HKSAR and the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association on 6 September 2025.

The competition took place at the Jockey Club Sha Tin Rowing Centre, attracting over 250 enrolments from works departments, public service organisations, consultancy firms and universities. PolyU SAO Rowing Club was blessed to be one of the contesting teams in the 1000m mixed coxed eight event, receiving the trophy from the Director of Water Supplies, Mr Roger Wong.

Having outshone rowing teams from other universities, our students gained more than just the trophy. The club members came to understand that teamwork and persistence laid grounds for their success, the very characters that PolyU is building in our students.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong. Under the theme "Dongjiang River - An Inseparable Bond, Our Blessed Origin", the rowing competition is one of the celebratory events organised in commemoration of the six-decade water supply to Hong Kong. By participating in the event, our PolyU students recognised the strong bond and support from the motherland. The participation of our rowers in the anniversary celebration of Dongjiang Water Supply to Hong Kong echoes with the recent Hong Kong Premiere of the Musical Production⸺“青春印豐碑” (東深供水工程舞台劇《青春印豐碑》香港首演), held on campus at the Jockey Club Auditorium in July 2025. Centred on the anniversary message that the motherland is always Hong Kong’s steadfast support, both events highlighted the Nation’s commitment to the well-being of Hong Kong residents and the strong bond between the two regions through the Dongjiang Water Supply to Hong Kong.
