The PolyU Foundation organises events, such as luncheons and talks, to facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen ties between the University and the broader community. A recent example is the PolyImpact Luncheon Series, titled “DeepSeek and Beyond: How Generative AI Can Revolutionise Your Business”. The luncheon talk provided participants with valuable insights for navigating the future of AI-driven business innovation.

Attendees included PolyU Council members, University management, Governing Committee members of the PolyU Foundation, government officials and industry leaders such as Ir Tony Wong, Commissioner for Digital Policy of the HKSAR Government. The University’s senior management, including President Professor Jin-Guang Teng; Treasurer Mr Arthur Lee Kin; and Executive Vice President Professor Miranda Lou, also attended the event.

Professor Teng shared PolyU’s latest efforts in fostering collaboration among stakeholders and advancing the development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) through interdisciplinary and multidimensional approaches. He also highlighted plans to expand the University’s talent pool in AI and data science, reinforcing its leadership in these fields.

The keynote address was delivered by Professor Yang Hongxia, Executive Director of the PolyU Academy for Artificial Intelligence and Associate Dean (Global Engagement) of the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences. Her talk, “How GenAI Empowers Enterprises”, explored the evolution of AI, breakthroughs and challenges in the development of AI-powered search engines, and the ways GenAI enhances competitiveness across industries. She introduced the decentralised Co-GenAI platform developed by her team and discussed the transformative opportunities and challenges GenAI presents, particularly in medicine and healthcare, where AI is poised to advance disease diagnosis and precision cancer treatment.

A panel discussion, chaired by PolyU Foundation Chairman Dr Sunny Chai and Professor Yang, examined Hong Kong’s unique strengths and the essential conditions for building a robust AI ecosystem.
