PolyU has partnered with eye care brand Rohto to establish the PolyU-Rohto Centre of Research Excellence for Eye Care. The Centre launch ceremony was held on 11 October where PolyU and Rohto also released an advocacy paper on promoting healthy vision and standardising the diagnosis of eye fatigue.

Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, said the partnership represents a powerful alliance in eye care. The PolyU School of Optometry is a world leader in optometry and will support the Centre in conduct research and testing to develop eye health technologies.

Prof. Mingguang He, Director of the PolyU-Rohto Centre of Research Excellence for Eye Care and Chair Professor of Experimental Ophthalmology of the School of Optometry, noted that eye fatigue is increasingly prevalent due to digitalisation and busy lifestyles, but often overlooked. The Centre aims to prioritise high-quality research into eye fatigue issues.

Mr Michael Sin, President of Mentholatum Asia Pacific, said they are dedicated to promoting eye health through eye drop products and research. The advocacy paper’s “Know-Diagnose-Explore-Engage” framework enhances awareness of eye fatigue and seeks to establish unified diagnostic standards, develop multi-level diagnosis, and collaborate across sectors to create a healthy environment for eyes.
