摘要

This presentation will review how different types of airborne particles and fibres can lead to very different biological responses, depending on their physiochemical characteristics, biopersistence, and internal dose. Theoretical as well as known mechanisms by which some airborne particles cause toxicity will be discussed, including how particle physiochemistry can influence particle deposition and clearance patterns and ultimately lead to different patterns of site-specific or broad-based structural changes in the lungs.
