講座 — Fifth International Workshop on Seawater Sea-sand Concrete (SSC) Structures Reinforced with FRP Composites (只有英文版本)
研究院/研究中心講座
摘要
(只有英文版本)
Background
To combat the deterioration of concrete structures in coastal/marine environments due to the corrosion of steel, the use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) to replace steel reinforcement in concrete structures has attracted significant attention and is gaining increasing acceptance. As FRP is expected to be little affected by chloride ions, its application in concrete structures opens a new avenue for concrete production with the direct use of locally available seawater and sea-sand. The resulting structures, referred to as FRP-reinforced seawater sea-sand concrete (FRP-SSC) structures, offer compelling economic and environmental advantages through savings in freshwater and material transportation costs as well as reduced river-sand mining. The bright prospects of FRP-SSC structures in the development of sustainable civil infrastructure have kindled growing research interests on relevant topics among researchers worldwide.
The FRP-SSC Structures Workshop series was initiated against this background and has now become an annual event. The first Workshop of the series was held in December 2016 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), Hong Kong, China. The Second FRP-SSC Workshop was subsequently held at PolyU in 2018, together with the launching ceremony of a major multi-disciplinary project funded by the Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council. The major project aims to develop FRP-SSC structures for marine infrastructure with a total budget of over HK$52 million. The Third FRP-SSC Workshop, jointly organised by PolyU and the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), was successfully held in January 2020 at the SUSTech campus, Shenzhen, China. The Fourth FRP-SSC Workshop held online in January 2021 hosted over 30 speakers from Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China, Japan, Europe, North America, Australia, and the Middle East and over 700 attendees.
Time and Venue
The 5th FRP-SSC Workshop will be held on 15-16 January 2022 in hybrid mode. A venue on the PolyU campus will be open to local speakers and a limited number of registered attendees, while international speakers and other attendees will be able to join virtually via Zoom. More details will be available soon.
Workshop Program
To enhance awareness of the emerging technology among the relevant industries, the Workshop will include an industry session which will be held on the morning of 15 January 2022, with a focus on the practical applications of FRP in civil engineering structures. This will be followed by three half-day research sessions, which will include invited talks on recent scientific progress and technological advances on fibre-reinforced polymer, seawater sea-sand concrete and related topics.
Details of the Workshop program will be made available in due time.
Registration
Registration is now open. The online registration link is https://polyu.hk/jXDZJ and the registration deadline is 15 December 2021. A limited number of seats are available for on-site attendance on a first-come-first-served basis.
