Gut microbiome expert Prof. Eugene B. CHANG delivers PAIR Distinguished Lecture

In his presentation, Prof. Chang first gave some fun facts about the human gut microbiome and explained that it is a vital organ of the body. Next, he elaborated on the importance of understanding a healthy gut microbiome and keeping it healthy. Prof. Chang stated that it is comparatively easy to determine the health of a vital organ through different tests but not the gut microbiome.

Prof. Ioannis BRILAKIS of Cambridge University delivers PAIR Distinguished Lecture on digital twinning in built environment

Prof. Ioannis BRILAKIS of the University of Cambridge delivered the 14th PAIR Distinguished Lecture titled “Digital Twinning the Built Environment” on 8 March 2024. The hybrid lecture attracted over 370 participants joining in person and online from more than 40 countries and regions across Australia, Asia, Europe and North America. It was also broadcast live on multiple social media platforms, captivating online viewing audience of over 13,100.

It was co-organized with CEE of PolyU and HKIE Civil Division. Over 160 participants joined the webinar.

The Photonics Research Institute (PRI) successfully hosted a Distinguished Seminar yesterday. The seminar was presented by Prof. Ioannis (John) Kymissis, the Kenneth Brayer Professor of Electrical Engineering and Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University. The seminar topic was "Electronics on anything - how thin film electronics can instrument the world".

The International Symposium on Reclamations Using Local Dredged Sediments was successfully held on Friday 26 January 2024, with the great effort of the co-organizations, the Geotechnical Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of PolyU. The Symposium was greatly supported by ASCE Greater China Section, Hong Kong Geotechnical Society, Institution of Civil Engineering Hong Kong, Research Institute for Land and Space (RILS) and Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD) of PolyU.
