My university experience I would call demanding and intensely fulfilling. Getting the balance between academic and social life was not an easy task; however, the wholesome support system at PolyU empowered me on both aspects.
Besides providing an excellent education, LSGI provided me with ample opportunities and resources for furthering my interests in Land Surveying and Geo-informatics and fostering a proactive attitude towards learning. Notably, my internships with famous surveying firms were the most transformative. They enlightened me with very valuable insights into the application of geomatics principles in the real world and really helped solidify how those skills will shape my future career path. I have had experience working directly with a variety of land surveying techniques and equipment, which has been so valuable. In the process, I acquired skills in the operation of Total Stations for high precision distance and angle measurements, GPS receivers for geospatial data acquisition, and Digital Levels for accurate height determination. I learned to fly UAVs (drones) with photogrammetry software installed on them for capturing aerial images to build 3D terrain models. Putting all these tools together with advanced GIS software for the analysis and management of spatial data equips me with an all inclusive skill set.
I was also involved in international internship programs and Geomatics conferences, whereby my academic scope was not only expanded, but a global network of professional contacts was established. From the exposure to these various experiences, I have grown into a more adaptable and innovative person, ready to take up the dynamic challenges of the Geomatics field.
Now, with a strong base and multi disciplinary skill base, I feel confident and better placed to pursue a professional journey in Land Surveying.
