Prof . Diansheng GUO is a scholar and research leader in Spatial Data Science, GeoAI, Big Data Analytics, and Urban Informatics, with an academic and industrial career spanning over two decades. He received his Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University in 2003, his M.S. from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999, and his B.S. from Peking University in 1996.

Prior to joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Prof. GUO served on the faculty of the University of South Carolina, where he progressed from Assistant Professor to tenured Associate Professor and ultimately Full Professor. During this period, he founded and directed the Spatial Data Mining and Visualization Laboratory, conducting pioneering research in spatial data mining, geographic information science, and large-scale location-based analytics. His research excellence was recognized with numerous awards, including the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award.

Prof. GUO has also held senior leadership roles in industry. He served as Chief Scientist and Director of the Spatial Big Data Lab at Tencent Map, Tencent, where he led multidisciplinary R&D teams in developing large-scale spatial data platforms, GeoAI models, and intelligent location-based services deployed in real-world products serving hundreds of millions of users. His work has resulted in influential scientific publications, patented technologies, and widely adopted commercial systems, generating significant academic and societal impact.

Prof. GUO is internationally recognized for his contributions to spatial data science and GeoAI. He is listed among the World’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists and ranked among the top 500 scholars in the field of Geological & Geomatics Engineering (Stanford University / Elsevier Scopus database).
