The PolyU Summer Institute 2025, an engaging five-day residential camp, took place from 22 to 24 July for Secondary 4 and 5 students. During the faculty attachment sessions on the second and fourth days, approximately 60 enthusiastic participants experienced an immersive art-tech exhibition in HiVE (Hybrid Immersive Virtual Environment) at PolyU. This innovative showcase transported them back in time, allowing for a vivid exploration of a World War II (WWII) war zone.
The LSGI session was led by Mr. Sahib Singh SANDHU, a PhD student who supervised and led by Ir Prof. Wallace LAI - Associate Head of LSGI, introduced students to geo-spatial technologies and archaeological excavation methods. These activities enabled participants to deepen their understanding of Hong Kong’s WWII history and ancient heritage. Through interactive, hands-on experiences, students gained valuable insights into historical preservation and the application of advanced technologies to uncover hidden artifacts.
This workshop was part of the project “Unfolding the Lost WWII Heritage: Promotion of Geo-spatial and Geophysical Technologies,” led by Ir Prof. LAI. Supported by funding from IFT-GPD and matching contributions from FCE and RILS, the project aims to engage the public in rediscovering and preserving Hong Kong’s war heritage through an integrated art-tech approach.
