Summary
Subject Description
This subject introduces students to the essentials of ArcGIS Online for web mapping. Students will learn to create a professional tourist map of local and non-local data, using interactive web apps. The subject covers data import, symbology, pop-up configuration, and app publishing, enabling students to design polished, user-friendly maps that can be easily shared online.
Objectives
- Introduce students to ArcGIS Online for creating interactive web maps and apps by using CSDI data.
- Teach effective data import, symbolisation, and presentation techniques.
- Guide students in designing and publishing a professional tourist map.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to:
- Explore ArcGIS Online and navigate its interface
- Connect to and upload spatial data layers to ArcGIS Online
- Publish data from ArcGIS Pro to ArcGIS Online
- Apply appropriate symbology and configure pop-ups to enhance map readability and user engagement
- Build and configure tables and forms within the web map environment
- Create and customise an Instant App using ArcGIS Online
- Ensure the overall design and functionality of the map and app are professional, polished, and user-friendly
- Share their completed web map and dashboard by providing accessible URLs to instructors or the public
