PolyU Service-Learning Appreciation Reception

29 Jan 2026

The Appreciation Reception for PolyU Service-Learning (SL) supporters was successfully held on 29 January 2026. The event brought together members of the PolyU Foundation SL Fundraising Task Force and valued SL donors, providing an opportunity for the University to express gratitude for their generosity and partnership.

PolyU President Prof. Jing Guang Teng opened the reception with a warm welcome. Together with Mr Richard Sun, Convenor of the Task Force, they expressed heartfelt thanks to Task Force members, donors, subject leaders and students for their unwavering commitment to the SL programme. Certificates of appreciation were presented to donors in recognition of their significant contributions, that have sustained and expanded transformative learning opportunities for students.

Prof. Grace Ngai, Head of Service Learning and Leadership, presented an overview of recent projects, highlighting the programme’s positive impact on student development and community partnership. She also outlined the SL project plan and future priorities. Following this, four student representatives shared their personal reflections, illustrating how donor support has enabled them to apply their professional knowledge and skills in serving underprivileged communities and giving back to society.

PolyU was the first university in Hong Kong to introduce SL as a compulsory component of its undergraduate curriculum in 2012. Today, the University’s SL initiative is recognised as “one of the world’s most impressive and impactful SL initiatives in higher education.”
