Mrs Angel Lau, Chairman and CEO of Squina International Group Limited, is a philanthropic entrepreneur. In 1994, she founded Squina which is a sole agent and retail company of natural health care products. A market leader in providing quality natural health products, the company now has more than 400 retail outlets and 30 beauty centres.

Mrs Lau has been relentless in supporting education and other social services. In 2001, she joined the Po Leung Kuk as one of its Directors and became the Chairman of its Board of Directors in 2007-2008. Over the years, in addition to actively contributing to the development and work of many charities in the capacities of Director and Adviser, she has also formed a nursing volunteers team to serve to the needy. She was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star and was appointed a Justice of the Peace by the HKSAR Government in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

Mrs Lau was an Adjunct Assistant Professor in our Faculty of Health and Social Sciences from 2007 to 2009 and was awarded a University Fellowship in 2009. In 2008, she made generous donations to PolyU to support the advancement of the Centre for Infection Control, the University’s sports-related research and the development of community projects, and has since 2010 served as Vice Chairman of the Fund-raising Committee under the PolyU Council.

Professor Alex Molasiotis

 

Professor Alex Molasiotis is Chair Professor of Nursing and Head of the School of Nursing. He joined PolyU in September 2012 after a long successful career at the University of Manchester, UK. He holds various visiting professorships and is internationally well known in the field of supportive care in cancer and symptom management. A prolific researcher, he has authored or co-authored many peer-reviewed publications that have high citations. His work has directly changed clinical practice and benefitted patient care.

Professor Molasiotis has received several international awards, including an honour from the British monarch in 2006 for his contributions to science. He has been the editor-in-chief of “European Journal of Oncology Nursing” since 2003 and sits on the editorial board of other journals.

Professor Molasiotis is highly active in international interdisciplinary professional bodies. He is an executive board member of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer, of which he also co-chairs the antiemetics working group, as well as a board member of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer and a member of its Nurses & Allied Professionals Committee. Professor Molasiotis is also a longtime volunteer on projects that help the less privileged, particularly in Africa.

The Endowed Professorship will enable Professor Molasiotis and his colleagues at PolyU to continue generating international knowledge with local impact, by expanding their already thriving programme of research in supportive care to develop excellence in helping patients with chronic illnesses to live better and longer despite their conditions.
