From 18 to 24 August 2026, the Department of Food Science and Nutrition (FSN) at PolyU was delighted to host a delegation of students and representatives from the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM) for an immersive academic and cultural exchange program.
Academic Exchange & Hands-on Research
Throughout the week, FSN professors and lecturers hosted dedicated research-sharing sessions, presenting the department’s latest scientific breakthroughs and introducing their respective research teams. To complement the lectures, SHUTCM students participated in hands-on research attachments, conducting practical laboratory work under the direct supervision and guidance of FSN fellows.
Field Visits & Industrial Exposure
Extending learning beyond the campus, FSN organised specialised site visits to provide students with real-world industry and institutional perspectives:

Yakult Factory (Tai Po): Students toured the automated production line to learn about industrial probiotic manufacturing, quality control, and health food production processes.

Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute (GCMTI): The delegation visited GCMTI’s testing facilities, gaining valuable insights into modern quality standards, testing methodologies, and the preservation of Chinese medicine culture.
The week proved to be a remarkably fruitful and engaging experience, deepening cross-institutional collaboration and inspiring the next generation of researchers in food science, nutrition, and Chinese medicine.
